Meet Raines! 💙
Dr. Nikolai’s nephew, Raines Simonsen was born on December 4, 2021, just a few months after we opened our doors at Adapt Chiropractic. Three days before Raines’ first birthday, he was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma. After several rounds of chemotherapy at Duke Children’s Hospital, his tumors had regressed. However, in November of 2023, it was determined that his cancer had metastasized to his spinal fluid, brain, and spinal cord. Raines underwent several more rounds of chemo and a stem cell transplant. Even though he seemed to be recovering well, the cancer continued to spread in his brain. Raines passed away on October 2, 2024. His eyes, brain, spine, and other tissue were courageously donated for pediatric cancer research.
