A common issue with knee pain is having difficulty doing traditional strengthening, such as lunges or squats. In this case, we like to utilize wall sits to strengthen the quadriceps by increasing time under attention without the hinging movement.

Using a stability ball allows you to incrementally increase or decrease the depth to where the knee is more comfortable. Progressions include the following:

- Advancing from 2️⃣ -> 1️⃣ leg

- Increase hold time = more time under tension

- Add weight by using dumbbells or a weight vest

👉 You can slide the feet forward or back to change the shin angle based on comfort.

✅ Perform 3 sets for the desired number of time & reps to challenge your quads.

Athletes spend lots of time and energy rehabbing while away from the game. To avoid playing poorly or getting hurt again, it is essential to perform comprehensive testing to measure strength, power, braking capacity, rate of force development and any asymmetry that may still be present.

If you are not testing, you are simply guessing. 🤔

A general rule of thumb is to be at least 90% of your uninjured side with strength, power and any side by side testing measures.

We measure strength, power, peak landing force and many other metrics using dynamometry and force plates from . 📊

This information, along with assessing movement and a client’s confidence/fear of re-injury, are all components that factor in successful return to play decision making.

As we continue to celebrate PT month; this is a friendly reminder to CHOOSE PT when you need help getting back in the game!

We have been helping Darian recover from an Achilles injury and working on single leg strength and stability has been a big part of her rehab.

She recently finished competing n collegiate track and field as a pole vaulter, and she is working to get back to vaulting again.
