🧠 Let’s Talk: Uterine Fibroids & Black Women’s Health
Up to 80% of Black women will be diagnosed with uterine fibroids by age 50 — a rate significantly higher than for other racial groups.
🩸 What are fibroids?
Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the uterus. They can cause heavy periods, pelvic pain, bloating, fatigue, and even fertility issues.
📊 Why are Black women more affected?
Earlier onset (often under age 30)
More and larger fibroids
More severe symptoms
Higher likelihood of surgery
🔬 Risk factors may include:
• Family history
• Vitamin D deficiency
• Chronic stress
• Exposure to certain chemicals (including some in hair products)
🎯 But here’s what matters most:
Too many Black women suffer in silence, are misdiagnosed, or are offered surgery as the only solution.
