This horse had underrun heels, no concavity, negative palmar angles, and was tripping a lot on his long feet. The owner and vet worked with us to get him to a much better place. We used Dental impression material, frog support pads, rolled toes and a short schedule were crucial for these changes to occur.
The horse is much more comfortable now, and his palmar angles are sorting themselves out now that he is growing heel and standing back up.

Jack and I have recently attended a seminar/clinic with Dr. Simon Curtis and a special guest that came was Ian Mickinely one of the best in the country at glue on shoes, for quarter crack repairs, and for correcting seedy toe. We learned a lot and will be putting this to good use.

As a full-time farrier, you see a lot of horses each week, week after week. We learn something new frequently, especially as we encounter problems requiring good eyes and a good understanding of anatomy. We love what we do, and it is important to us to provide the utmost care and the tools that allow our horses to be the amazing horse in the first place and that is their feet.
This is a particular lameness we have been running into more than we'd like. Underrun heels, or in other words, horses that will grow toe and no heel. It will eventually lead to caudal failure and the coronet band to stretch downward in an ugly fashion as the heels, bulbs, and the digital cushion are crushed while the toe grows rapidly forward causing havoc all around.

This is a horse with underrun heels and caudal failure. The frog is seeking ground contact, his toe flares and grows quickly while the sand here in North Carolina sandpapers the heels off. The correction is to wedge the foot with impression material and give it additional frog support.
This was six weeks of growth and you can see the distress on the heels are crushing the caudal portion of the foot even.

This Arabian mare with club foot is showing nice improvement. We utilize an extended toe shoe to encourage the foot to grow where it should. The other front foot as a result has flared a bit but we keep it in check as we work to correct the other.

Sometimes farriers come up to a situation that requires a lot of work. Sometimes, we have very little work to do. This draft horse wore a size 7 and considering what we had to work with, we did a really nice job.
