Power outage + frozen breastmilk? Take a deep breath and prepare!

Although outside temps are supposed to be below freezing, I recommend keeping your milk in your freezer and taking these steps!

•Group milk together.
Store bags close together and toward the bottom or center of the freezer, that’s the coldest spot.

•A full freezer stays cold longer.
If your freezer isn’t full, add frozen water bottles or ice packs. More frozen mass = longer protection.

•Keep the freezer CLOSED.
Every time you open it, you let cold air escape. A full deep freezer can keep breastmilk frozen for up to 48 hours if it stays closed.

•Breastmilk is safe if it still has ice crystals.
If the milk is partially thawed but still slushy or icy, it can be refrozen safely. Any milk completely thawed needs to be used in 24 hours.

Stay safe!!! ❄️
