Healthcare didn’t take Ma*****na seriously as solution to many problems for years. Not until they were able to capitalize from it. Imagine how many other options are kept secret, hidden, and on the shelf?! It’s scary and unsettling to know this truth.⁣

We live in a world now where only the profitable and convenient treatment options are recommended. The options held or owned by the healthcare elite. ⁣

Part of what the HumanCare culture intends to do is open up the world of health and wellness to the truth. All of us, the people who depend on healthcare, we should have all of the the solution, the treatment options made available to us. If there is no research to support a truly viable option... then do the damn research. The best option for each individual person should be the only priority and focus. This is not the case now... but it will be. ⁣

Nutrition and hydration are such real struggle for so many people. Feeding tubes, ports, and central lines become so critical but they themselves cause so many problems. So this is a shout out to all those who live this struggle everyday. ⁣

We are getting ready to do a series on this topic. But for now let’s pour out some for our homies to say we see and know your struggle. Tag the homie/homies in your life that you standby or who have stood by you during your nutrition and hydration fight. We love you all. 🍊🍊⁣

Orem, UT : Rachel - Connection Makes The Heart Grow Stronger⁣

Ask healthcare if ‘connection’ is important... what would they say? Probably some bu****it about there not being any evidence to support it. ⁣

Ask Rachel if ‘connection’ is important... what would she say? Yes! What would Nicole say? Yes! What would nearly each one of you say? Yes! ⁣

We need each other!! But we don’t need the fake, guarded versions of each other. We don’t need competition between each other. We don’t need to be questioned or called out by one another. We just need authentic, genuine love and support. ⁣

It isn’t our job as a community to police each other. It isn’t our job to play CSI Chronic Illness. And it’s definitely not our job to worry with what the Kiwi Farms or Reddit crew have to say. ⁣

The important thing to understand is that we all have unique healthcare experiences just like we all have unique DNA... so the only option is to know this and offer love and support. After all, we all have to fight to get the care we deserve from a system that doesn’t always care about us. So let’s not make it harder on each other. We have the opportunity to show love, compassion, and empathy toward each other. We can be each other’s inspiration, motivation and safe place. ⁣

A big thank you to all of you, so many of you, who genuinely love and care for each other! 🧡🧡 Keep it up! 🍊🍊⁣

We can either fight against each other or for each other. But fighting for each other is the only option that we choose to entertain.⁣

To anyone out there who doesn’t have the feeling of love and support, reach out. We will be love and support for you. We’ll also help you find more of it! 🐝🍊⁣

Minneapolis, MN : Mickey .with.stripes (Oct 19) - Experience > Passion⁣

Our life experiences make up how we see the world. They alone have the power to shape us. Our personalities, our passions and purposes can all be framed by lens in which we experience the world. Our ⁣

Mickey is living proof of this. But her approach is the thing that makes her rare. Throughout Mickey’s health journey, she has experienced the good, the bad and the ugly sides of healthcare. But she has taken something valuable from each of these experiences. And these lessons have and are still helping to inspire her vision and passion for the future. ⁣

Mickey has used her negative experiences as a fuel to make an impact. And her positive experiences are becoming part of the compass the guide her. She observes and absorbs her environment so authentically that those lessons are laying the foundation for life in almost real-time.⁣

Mickey has a natural passion for helping people and a hunger to learn and grow to be part of making an impact for them. Mickey will be a great doctor because she has the ability to see with great clarity. She knows that healthcare isn’t about just she has already seen, but also that it’s about everything that most healthcare people can’t, don’t or won’t see. Looking past ‘what is’ and seeing ‘what can be’ is a true gift. We are excited to be part of Mickey’s story it continues to evolve and she as she continues to grow.⁣

Mickey has been through a lot of difficult things already in life. The hard things in life can break us or make us. Mickey knows that the hard thing about the hardest things is to not be defined by them. Instead, she redefines what they could be so she can create a better future for herself and others. ⁣

We applaud all of you that we’ve met number who are inspired by the good, the bad and the ugly of their healthcare experience to be part of the change👏. Taking off your blinders and seeing the world for exactly what it is... that is a gift. But don’t let the world sand off the rough edges of your gift. Meaning... embrace the thing that makes your perspective unique. The rough edges are where the magic happens.⁣🍊

Treat Me Human : Mental Health⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Why are mental health diagnoses viewed ⁣⁣differently than physical health ones? A lot of it comes down to the lack of certainty by health ‘professionals’. The lack of certainty is from a lack of effort and consideration by the industry to truly understand. Let’s be honest, not that long ago, people with serious mental health issues were thrown into psych wards (which are basically prisons). ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
This effortless beginning by healthcare got the stigma rolling. And the judgmental and ego filled culture of today’s healthcare just adds more fuel to the stigma fire.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
So what’s the point? The point is, when It comes to mental health, there is a historical lack of consideration by the healthcare system. This is so problematic because the general public takes it cues from the ‘healthcare professionals’. So the compassionless mindset gain roots. Those roots have really taken hold as Hollywood have taken the same cues to portray mental illness itself as the villain of the story. The result... even more deeply rooted stigmas. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
The truth is things that can’t be easily seen or explained get treated differently. And this lack of clarity has become a really simple scapegoat for healthcare to do less. But more is what is needed. Medication (alone) isn’t the answer. We need more competent people who care enough to take a professional approach to mental health. They are out there but they are the exception and not the rule.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Last time we checked, the mind is part of body. Let’s help make sure those who are impacted by mental illness aren’t treated any differently to those impacted with cancer. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Neb This: ⁣Treat Me Human

Our vision for HumanCare is the result of us taking a deep dive into understanding the healthcare experience from your perspective. Doing this helped us see how the motivations of the healthcare model impact your lives. The clarity gained from this helped us lay the foundation of the HumanCare culture. ⁣

This is hard to swallow... the current healthcare model is to extend the treatable life of patients. So treatment becomes the priority over the outcome. Why isn’t expanding the quality of life the focus? Because the entire culture of healthcare depends on continually treating you. ⁣

Making positive, life improving outcome the priority would change how healthcare does everything. It would be great for us (the people who desire to live better lives). But it’s not happening and it’s never going to happen. ⁣

Yes, extending patient lives is better than the alternative (not being alive). But this isn’t the same expanding quality of life and give people the best opportunity to live their best lives. ⁣

HumanCare is the culture we are building to change this. For too long we, the people have been seen as a way to keep healthcare working. But it’s time to force healthcare to work for us. ⁣

The one thing we can all agree on is... just being alive is not the same thing as truly living.⁣

Now this is an exaggeration but is it really that far off. Healthcare often has very few answers for people with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.⁣

Most doctors know nothing about it and many have never even heard of EDS. ⁣

How many of you feel like you are given answers that are basically as helpful as Elmer’s Danlos? ⁣

Tag the person that you know feels this frustration.⁣

Cornfield, Maryland : Remy & Caide⁣

This HumanCare Road Tour isn’t about visiting people who are convenient to go to or people who have a certain number of followers. We visit everyone we can from anywhere we can.⁣

Remy and Caide live in rural Maryland and thank goodness they have each other (and Lee). Their bond is so tight and they help get each other through so much. But many people living in rural areas aren’t as lucky. Living with chronic illness, disability or mental illness in rural areas is another problem we will be working to solve. ⁣

*Do you live in a rural area? - comment with the town name*

Access to top notch health facilities, specialists, wellness programs is another huge source of anxiety and health problems for people in rural areas. Which means they settle for low quality or spend lots of time and money commuting. Both are real problems. ⁣

This is why HealthBeMe is not only going to be an online place for support and resources but we intend to being the HumanCare mindset offline. Where someone lives should not prevent them from receiving care, not in 2019. But it does everyday. ⁣

Remy and Caide are lucky to have each other but the social connection part in rural areas is also hard. Finding someone who understands you and your world doesn’t have great odds. HealthBeMe will help make that easier but it’s still going to require effort and dedication from everyone to make the connections real and valuable. That’s where we hope the culture we are building comes in to play. ⁣

Love you both and Lee (not pictured who we also met at York University).⁣

Remy’s getting ready to have a major surgery... show him some love.

Our Story

HealthBeMe is a place for people with health challenges to overcome the anxiety and fear of feeling like a patient. The healthcare experience makes people feel alone, confused and powerless. So we created an environment that gives people the information, the tools and the community they need to feel strong and confident. We call this experience HumanCare.

Navigating your Healthcare experience can leave you feeling powerless and directionless. The Healthcare environment just isn’t designed to empower you, as a result, it turns you into a passive, compliant ‘patient’. But this environment make it very hard to make the health and well-being of people the #1 priority. We always will. That’s our promise.

With HealthBeMe you will find your strength with your very own HealthFile and as part of your Hive.

Your HealthFile is like a personal health record, that is controlled by you. It gives you the ability to add/edit everything relevant to your health, all in one place. You can add or update all of the regular ‘healthcare’ info relevant to you (such as treatments, diagnosis, meds, procedures). But you can also do the same with info that healthcare doesn’t record (such as diet, fitness, alternative treatments, hobbies, etc). That’s just the beginning, your HealthFile offers many more features to help you feel confident and in charge of your future.
