When someone passes away in North Carolina, their next of kin must make several important decisions. These include choices about funeral and burial arrangements, handling the deceased’s final affairs, and notifying the proper authorities.

These decisions can be a lot for someone to handle, especially if they are grieving. It is normal for the next of kin to delegate some of these tasks to friends or professionals, such as a local funeral home and crematory.

However, if you don’t want your NOK to feel burdened by these overwhelming decisions, it’s essential to plan with a funeral pre-plan.

Learn about the next of kin meaning and all of the decisions they must make when a loved one dies.

Life insurance and funeral insurance can help your loved ones cover expenses after you die, but there are some critical differences.

Funeral insurance is typically a low coverage policy that is easy to qualify for, while life insurance policies can have much higher amounts of coverage, even into the millions! However, there is a third option: the funeral trust or preneed contract.

A funeral trust is a revocable or irrevocable trust used to pay for funeral expenses. However, it is much more than that! These trusts are created at your chosen North Carolina funeral home. Some nursing homes even require them as part of your admission.

Find out more about how each of these options work.

While most individuals appreciate condolence cards and phone calls, text messaging is also a good way to let someone know how much you care. These days, a friend can feel your love through a text message as you use your own words to express your condolences.

Here are a few tips on what to text when someone dies, the how-to for composing your words of condolence.

Serving Families Since 1920

Guiding you through a time of uncertainty. It is what our family has been doing since 1920. Today, we specialize in cremations with our own exclusively modern cremation center. This allows families to participate in the experience by simply saying goodbye one last time OR assist with the start of the cremation process. We are experts in natural (green) burials having performed many dozens of local green funerals and burials all of which were approved by the Green Burial Council.

We are a privately owned funeral home in North Raleigh owned by 3rd and 4th generation family funeral directors. Born from the knowledge of our paternal great grandfather and grandfather, Renaissance came to exist in 2003 with roots dating back to 1920 in Brooklyn, NY with the creation of Smolenski Funeral Home. In the 1940’s, another family funeral home was opened in Hempstead, NY; and then during the 1950’s, another funeral home in New Hyde Park, NY.
