Very busy day today with the company. but through the busyness, I took some time to listen to a podcast by Olivyah called, Her Holistic Path”, a doula, birth, and women hood podcast. That I highly recommend listening too for anyone.

If you are to give birth soon, I would definitely recommend listening to this specific episode. “Episode 17. Uncomfortable Truths About Birth, Important Historical Moments In Obstetrics.”

As I was working and listening to the podcast, and so deeply agreeing with everything that Olivyah was saying, I thought “Just because the people working in the system are good people…still does not mean the system in its entirety is good.” The system meaning hospitals.

A few minutes later, would you believe that she said pretty much exactly that! lol I love doula moments like that, rather in person, virtually, or just listening to a podcast. A confirmation, that lets me know that everything is going great, and exactly as it should be.

But back to actually listening to this episode…please do. And all of the episodes featured on the podcast. Ladies, your awareness when being pregnant, and giving birth is so vital in having a birth experience that you are proud of and thankful for, and to educate our babies, who will have beautiful babies too one day. If you listen to the podcast, you will know exactly what I mean. 🩷🧡

A statement with so much truth for some people! For those desiring an unmedicated labor and birth, sometimes arriving to the hospital before active labor has started, could determine how your birthing experience will flow, for SOME instances.

For some people, their environment at home may possibly not be ideal. And believe it or not, they may find more peace and adequate care at the hospital!

But for people that enjoy their home environment while in labor… enjoy it! don’t rush away from it too soon. Of course always listen to your intuition about how your labor is progressing and when it would benefit you to make your way to the hospital. Having a supportive group of people around, and an experienced doula can assist with understanding how labor is progressing and when to arrive to your care provider and nurses.

Laboring at home can be so enjoyable! You’re in your sacred spaces and comfort of your own personal things.

If you have questions about this process, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Of course when this song came on my playlist I instantly thought peaceful postpartum minds?

For women, the postpartum period is an ever changing thing. we have beautiful and blissful days after giving birth, and other days it’s like whew someone come save me right now please lol

This song, just a chill instrumental really, but it reminded me of how our mindset after giving birth is so important to our mental and emotional health. How can we bring Peace…into our lives and homes after we have just given birth?

It could be:

✨Letting go of perfection. It’s okay if the house gets messy. Sis leave them dishes for a moment. Ask friends and family to help with the cleaning. or hire a cleaning company. () (shameless plug 💕)

✨Look into belly binding. Sometimes just pulling our abdomen in, can help with back pain associated with having children. And to realign our organs that have beautifully shifted around during pregnancy and birth

✨Drink lots of warm teas and broths

✨MARVEL at this time in your life…dig deep and realize what you accomplished in giving BIRTH, allow those thoughts to strengthen you. Understand that the postpartum stage can be for years…ride the waves of it. We are always changing, and our babies are too! It’s a journey of learning and discovering.

✨Step out outside. (Once you’re ready physically of course) Rather it’s cold or warm out. Take you and your babies out in the sun.

✨Slow it down…the universe is not rushing us. Don’t rush yourself.

Women of African Descent, Breastfeeding Week… ✨
Otherwise known as Black Breastfeeding Week.

There is a deep rooted history of oppression of my ancestors and their role in nourishing the lives of babies that were not theirs, by breastfeeding them as their wet nurses. Our enslaved women of history not only nourished their own babies through the most tragic of times (to say the absolute least) but they essentially nourished the entire country by breastfeeding the children, of slave owners.

“Black” Breastfeeding Week should always be celebrated, women of this category should always be celebrated for choosing to nourish our babies with our bodies. For some ladies in this category, breastfeeding is not a social norm and is often stigmatized.

As melanated women, I would encourage us all to at least attempt to breastfeed. Try your best at it. Unless absolutely necessary under critical conditions of the birthing person or baby…calm yourself as much as possible, let baby know that your breast were designed to nourish them…be happy and kind to yourself and the baby in this moment. If you’re in a room full of people at the time of initiating breastfeeding and feel you need space with just the baby…kindly ask everyone to leave. even the care providers. heck even partners if they are riding you. lol i remember being at a birth and the moms husband was eagerly watching her, almost impatiently to see if she would “get” breastfeeding or not. It’s a sacred moment, if you allow it to be, and it should be treated that way. Create the breastfeeding environment, and know that you are capable of doing this. ❤️✨🤱🏾

The photo is of me and my third baby! I have no glamour shots of me breastfeeding. not to many glamour shots of me in motherhood at all actually lol but I love this photo of me breastfeeding him in the middle of this forest, near this stream. I breastfed him until he was 22 months old. he is no longer my b**b man, but I enjoy looking back at moments of my breastfeeding journey for all three of my suns. 🌞✨❤️

Doula baby update! ✨🌻 🥰

Momma + Sun Love All Day. ✨ I learned so much attending the birth of this cutie baby Kylan. I won’t forget the strength I witnessed from mom here, both physically and spiritually. Doula work is a journey! I’m so thankful that she allowed me on this birth journey of hers, as a doula and friend! ❤️
