Thank you so much for all the wonderful books that were brought in and donated to Book Harvest last month! We are blown away by the overwhelming community support. We were able to collect books for young infants all the way up to teenagers. So excited to get to deliver these this week! 📚

Keystone Chiropractic will be hosting a book drive for the month of October. We will be collecting new or gently used books for ages 0-18yrs for a local nonprofit organization in Durham. Book Harvest collects books to help support literacy in the community. This is a great way to purge some of those books your kids have outgrown or is just no longer interested in. Saves them from ending up in landfills, reduces clutter in your home, and can help another child 'FALL' in love with reading. Its a Win Win for everyone! 📚 🍁

To say that breastfeeding is just 'hard' is an understatement! Breastfeeding a baby is both physically and emotionally demanding. A mom can burn between 500-700 calories per day from breastfeeding alone. It is also considered a full time job and unfortunately due to the economy a lot of moms are having to go back to work full time while still breastfeeding or pumping. Even though breastfeeding brings all the emotions, it is rewarding experience with so many benefits for both mom and baby!

- Skin to skin helps develop a strong bond between mother and baby, reduces stress, and establishes milk supply
- Breastmilk is free!
- Breastmilk not only contains all the nutrition your baby needs for the first 6 months of life, but it also provides antibodies to help protect baby against infections and boosts their immunity. When baby directly latches onto the breast, their saliva interacts with mom's breastmilk in such a way that it will then produce certain nutrients and antibodies specific to your babies needs at the particular time. This is why the color of breastmilk can vary.
- Breastmilk is easier to digest than formula, so there are lower rates of constipation and diarrhea when compared to formula fed babies
- Breastmilk helps establish the gut microbiome which is vital for healthy digestion and immune function
- Breastfeeding can lower the incidence of ear infections, pneumonia and SIDS
- Breastfeeding provides lifelong benefits and protection against many diseases including diabetes, obesity and asthma
- Women who breastfeed have a lower risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis and postpartum depression.
- Breastfeeding helps new moms return back to pre-pregnancy weight quicker

According to the CDC, WHO, and APA it is recommended the mothers exclusively breastfeeding for 6 months and then add in complementary solid foods while breastfeeding up to 2 yrs.
