And yes! We know itโ€™s one of the most overused phrases in our industryโ€ฆ
we said what we said โšก๏ธโšก๏ธ

But hereโ€™s what we actually mean when we say it:

Not sucking in.
Not bracing.
Not holding your breath.

Weโ€™re cueing a gentle wrap and lift through your center - the kind of support that feels steady, not forced.

Think:
โœจ your waistline softly hugging in
โœจ your core lifting with your breath
โœจ engagement that supports the movement (not takes over it)

Youโ€™ll usually hear us layer it with:

New Month - New Spotlight highlighting our wonderful members. โœจ

Say hi and get to know our ๐Ÿ’—February ๐Ÿ’—Member of the Month - Sri!

1. How long have you been a member at Barre-Up and what inspired you to take your first class?

โœจI joined Barre-Up in July of โ€˜25 after taking my first class through ClassPass. At the time, I was looking for a break from my usual routine of running and weightlifting at my apartment gym. I wanted something different a space that felt welcoming, warm, and community-driven, while still pushing me to be my best self. Barre-Up turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.

2. Whatโ€™s one class or workout move you never thought youโ€™d enjoy, but now love?

โœจPilates at Barre-Up completely changed my mindset. As a core yogi at heart, I never really thought highly of Pilates, but now I genuinely love it. The 100s and all the core-focused exercises really amp me up and make me feel strong.

3. Whatโ€™s a favorite song that would hype you up in every class if you heard it?

โœจIโ€™m a huge music lover, so this is a tough one! Anything from Winterโ€™s playlist in Buti or 70s playlist instantly gets me energized some of my favorite class moments come from those playlists.

4. Whatโ€™s something youโ€™ve learned about yourself since joining?

โœจIโ€™ve learned that Iโ€™m capable of pushing through discomfort and embracing challenges both physically and mentally. BU has helped me build endurance, confidence, and the belief that I can do hard things, even when they feel intimidating at first.

5. When youโ€™re not taking a class, where might we find you?

โœจWhen Iโ€™m not taking a class, youโ€™llt probably find me exploring new matcha spots, discovering dessert places (I have a serious sweet tooth), traveling, or spending time with friends. I also love trying new things whether thatโ€™s experimenting with recipes, exploring a new art form, or learning something completely different.

6. Whatโ€™s a fun fact or hidden talent youโ€™d like to share with our community?

โœจI love dancing (Iโ€™m a shy dancer but trained in classical Indian dance) and sketching Iโ€™m an art lover and tend to draw whenever inspiration strikes.

7. How has being a part of our studio/community impacted your wellness journey?

Being part of the Barre-Up community has made fitness feel sustainable and joyful instead of intimidating. The encouragement from instructors and fellow members has helped me stay consistent, feel supported, and I genuinely look forward to working out. Iโ€™ve met so many incredible people, and Iโ€™m grateful for the warm, loving, and welcoming community. I truly look forward to ending my day at the studio with these amazing people.

Our 9th Annual February Wellness Challenge: The Self-Love Reset has begun! Even though we pivoted to virtual this morning, the energy already feels special!!

February is about consistency, not perfection. This challenge is designed to support steady habits, simple routines, and showing up in ways that feel doable even on busy or low-energy days.

What we track:
โœจ 21 classes in 28 days
Thatโ€™s it.

Everything else is optional and untracked:
โœจ Drinking a little more water
โœจ Noticing one thing that feels good or grounding each day
โœจ The Quiet Commitment - one small, intentional promise you make to yourself for the month

We already have a great group participating, and itโ€™s so motivating to get to move through this together while everyone keeps their own pace.

You donโ€™t have to be sure youโ€™ll hit 21 classes to join.

Thereโ€™s no โ€œhalf challengeโ€ - but there is nine years of knowing this:
this challenge belongs to you.

Signing up isnโ€™t about perfection or checking every box. Itโ€™s about saying yes to yourself in February, even if that โ€œyesโ€ looks like 16 classesโ€ฆ or 17โ€ฆ or simply more than you normally would.
