Immerse is our dance fitness class for all levels! No dance experience is necessary for these classes, as they are built to help you pick up the choreography as you go! :)

We recently asked one of our Immerse instructors, Jae, how she approaches class planning and teaching. Here’s what she shared:

“My goal as the instructor is to be intentional about how class starts, where we go from there, and where we end up [energetically]. What I love about Immerse, specifically, is that everyone is encouraged to choose their own adventure - that includes intensity of movements, frequency of breaks, and so much more!”
Jae also noted that while she always has a class plan, she wants participants to feel empowered to make every movement their own.

“Everything I’m doing and saying is just a suggestion!”

Whether you’re looking to gain confidence through movement, or simply looking to have a good time and get sweaty, Immerse is for you!

We are thrilled to have Erin Wadsworth join our team!

Erin joined as a member in 2024 during her journey to embrace mindful Movement and body neutrality. As a wellness coordinator, she hopes to continue to support and contribute to The Current’s goal of redefining wellness as the combination of physical, mental, and social wellness with social justice and self-compassion.

Erin was born and raised in Raleigh, leaving only to pursue her bachelor’s degree in public relations and organizational communication right down the road in Chapel Hill. She has held various roles, including marketing intern for local art nonprofits, donor relations specialist at a UNC foundation, and engagement coordinator for a downtown Raleigh farmer’s market. Erin also currently serves as the communications project manager for the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media.

We’re excited to welcome Ashleigh Powell to our yoga team as a regular sub!

With both her 200-hour and 300-hour trainings and an additional 80 hours in restorative and therapeutic yoga, Ashleigh brings a deeply mindful and compassionate practice to every class.

She lovingly calls restorative yoga “grown-up nap time” — a gentle invitation to truly rest, relax, and reconnect.

Ashleigh’s teaching focuses on breathwork, mindful movement through asana, and meditation, guiding students toward svadhyaya (self-study) and personal insight.

Having personally navigated back pain, a shoulder injury, and other challenges, she knows the value of offering options and props - and passionately believes that yoga is for every body.

Come say hi when you see her on the schedule and experience her grounding, accessible approach to yoga!

It means the world to us when we hear feedback from Current Wellness members about their experiences in our space. We recently received some glowing feedback from Sydney B. that we simply had to share!

Sydney said, “Current Wellness has opened my eyes to the power of representation. It’s shown me that mindful movement can be joyful, community-building, and accessible to everyone.”

Sydney mentioned that when she first thought about coming to Current, she worried about not doing the movements correctly and the possibility of embarrassing herself. But she tried it anyway, and, boy, are we happy she did!

She reflected, “I wanted to be active in a way that felt right for me. At first, I went just to impress my therapist, but soon I realized I was actually impressing myself and wanted to continue going for ME.”

We love seeing this kind of growth and mindset shift in our Current community members, and credit our inclusive and Health at Every Size (HAES®) philosophy for facilitating both so beautifully!

If you’re new to HAES® or interested in learning more about it, we invite you to join us on November 15 from 1-2:30 PM for our Intro to HAES®: Rethinking Fitness and Yoga workshop!

What if “wellness” didn’t come with a rulebook?
So often, diet culture shows up disguised as health advice — telling us there’s one right way to eat, move, or feel in our bodies. But those rigid rules can create more disconnection, leaving us unsure of what our bodies truly need.

In this conversation, Dejah Fingland, a therapist with , chats with therapy intern Ashley Broadwater to unpack how diet culture can blur the line between nourishment and morality — and how we can begin to rebuild trust in ourselves instead.

At Current Wellness, we believe in creating an anti-diet culture space — one that honors body diversity, flexibility, and joy as essential parts of well-being. Dejah is honored to offer therapy for folks in all bodies that supports healing from disordered eating, body image struggles, and the everyday pressures of diet culture.

Together, we’re here to remind you: your body isn’t a problem to solve. It’s a place to come home to.

Countless fitness and wellness spaces champion grueling workouts, physical extremes, and pain as part of the training process. We don’t know who needs to hear this, but meaningful workouts simply don’t have to be that way.

Our former personal trainer, Everett, came to Current Wellness from another gym that had a very different approach to movement. They spoke candidly to us about how they experienced the difference in The Current’s overall tone and approach to exercise:

“At my previous gym, I would track every workout - movements/weights/reps/sets, etc. There wat an app where I could log [my stats] and people at my gym could see my score and comment on my workout. The app ranked everyone on a leaderboard. The fact that I could see everyone’s scores encouraged my competitive side, and I wanted to lift heavier, be faster, etc., even when it wasn’t the best thing for my body.

I liked to keep track of things to inform future workouts, but going off of the data alone rather than listening to my body led to injury. My previous gym claims their workouts are ‘functional fitness’ which is true in some regard, but can also lead to body dysfunction if you don’t consider clients as individuals.

At Current Wellness, there isn’t any logging workouts or ‘scores.’ I kept track of what I was working on with my clients, but the goals were more like ‘improving balance’ or ‘hip mobility, which are way more beneficial in my opinion.”

As a trainer, Everett explained that they felt comfortable adjusting any planned workouts to address how their clients were feeling on any given day. They often integrated functional movements with mobility exercises to ensure that workouts were challenging, but not in a way that added to anything that “didn’t feel right in the client’s body that day.”

Does this sound like the shift you need in your relationship to exercise? This is how we approach movement at Current Wellness. Visit us at https://currentwellnessraleigh.com/contact/ for a free phone consultation!
