Get to know Forest (they/he) 🌿

As a yoga apprentice, Forest brings a grounding, playful, and deeply intentional energy to their teaching. During his time at Current, he’s committed to showing up authentically and hopes to empower others to do the same.

Forest approaches movement with gentleness, compassion, and deep listening. From feeling empowered in star pose ✨ to playful daily rituals of self-love, their practice is all about reconnecting to your inner light and taking up the space you deserve.

Not every workout needs to push you to your limit to “count.”

A sustainable relationship with fitness isn’t built on extremes. It’s built on consistency and listening to your body.

Here’s what that looks like at Current Wellness.

Are you tired of fitness and yoga spaces that feel more like punishment than empowerment? Do you feel like something is off when your fitness instructor talks about burning calories and earning “cheat” meals?

Join us for Cultivating Body Respect: A Weight-Neutral Approach to Fitness and Yoga, a workshop that invites you to unlearn the weight-obsessed messaging of mainstream movement culture and reconnect with movement in a way that feels joyful, sustainable, and liberating. This workshop is great for folks who are in the early stages of unlearning diet culture and/or for folks who want reminders to deepen their roots in body liberation.

Rooted in the principles of Health at Every Size® (HAES®), this workshop explores how fitness and yoga have been shaped by diet culture, capitalism, and white supremacy; why a weight-centric approach to movement can harm physical and mental health; and what it looks like to shift toward a weight-inclusive, body-affirming movement practice.

Whether you’re a yoga student, fitness lover, or someone working to heal your relationship with movement, you’ll leave with tools to reimagine fitness and yoga as practices of care, not control.

All bodies, identities, and experience levels are welcome.

Workshop goals include increasing awareness of the ways mainstream fitness and yoga spaces reinforce weight stigma; exploring how a weight-centric approach can be harmful to both physical and mental health; introducing the principles of HAES and how they apply to movement; and inviting a more inclusive, joyful, and sustainable relationship with fitness and yoga.

Date: Saturday, April 18th
Time: 1:00-2:30pm
Cost: Sliding scale pricing: $14, $24, or $34

Massage and Movement Therapy heals me. I practice self-care bodywork therapies that innervate, engage, restore and strengthen. As a Licenced Massage and Bodywork Therapist I support my clients in a variety of ways to care for their needs. I focus on reducing stresses, myofascial releases, neuromuscular development, and repatterning to reduce pain and strengthen our bodies.

I teach self-care movement therapy with a guided embodiment practice that can utilize and resemble somatics, Reusi Dat Ton, Qigong, meditation, strengthening-training and pilates. I have a few guiding principles that I preach, but when we slow down and listen within I am guided toward healing.

Water is one of the simplest ways to support your energy, your strength, and your recovery.

Consider this your reminder to fill up your water bottle and have some electrolytes!

Our Story

Current Wellness is a wellness center for physical and mental health in downtown Raleigh. "The Current" is open now for online and outdoor fitness classes and will be opening in-person later in 2020. Our new building will include a movement studio for functional fitness and yoga; a teaching kitchen for food education; and private co-working offices for mental health counseling, bodywork, and other wellness practitioners.

Founders Brit Guerin and Nathan Williams bring diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise to this venture. Brit has a professional background in fitness, mental health, and educational programming, which is complemented by Nathan’s experiences in outdoor education; project management; and higher education.

The Current strives to be an inclusive space where all people feel welcome and a community of wellness practitioners serving the mind, body, and community needs of Raleigh.
