Healing Transitions a nonprofit organization that offers peer-based recovery services.

Healing Transitions has been providing peer driven long term residential services since January of 2001. During that time we have been very successful in empowering people who are homeless and suffer from substance use issues transition to a fulfilling life. Along with our community partners, we have been able to reduce Wake County homeless population by 25% even as the overall population in Wake County has grown 45%. That constitutes an approximate 50% drop in the number of un-sheltered homeless individuals on our streets.

We're excited to announce the start of Quarterly Public Tours at our Men's Campus! There's no better way to learn more about Healing Transitions than to experience the power of recovery in real-time. Join other passionate and curious folks to witness our mission firsthand.

A heartfelt thank you to our friends at First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh for spending the evening with our participants and leading such a meaningful watercolor class. Our participants loved it and shared how calming and restorative it felt to simply sit, paint, and be present. We’re so grateful for your creativity and generosity!

Earlier this week, Healing Transitions and the greater Raleigh community said goodbye to a beloved leader and friend, Byron Leak. Byron consistently stood in the gap for those who felt unseen and unheard, advocating with courage and compassion. His steady presence and unwavering belief in the worth of every person left a lasting mark on our community. Though we grieve this profound loss, we are deeply thankful for the example he set and the countless lives he touched through his generosity and heart for others.

Thank you to our community partners who have surrounded us with care as we navigate this loss together — providing lunch, snacks, encouragement, and heartfelt support. We are especially grateful to A Place at the Table Raleigh, Oak City Cares, the Raleigh Transit Authority, as well as so many others who have shown up for us in meaningful ways. Byron’s absence is felt by us all, and your thoughtful gestures have meant more than words can express.

Last week, to honor our men’s and women’s campus anniversaries, staff and alumni retraced the original trudge routes first walked by those in recovery in 2001 and 2006. The six-mile men’s route and four-mile women’s route honored a journey once taken daily in the pursuit of healing. Along the way, we paused at pivotal places that sustained us over the years, offering plaques as heartfelt tokens of gratitude.

Special shoutout to Raleigh Magazine for cheering us on and so generously offering us refreshments halfway through the six-mile walk. We truly couldn't do the work without the support of community partners like you and the establishments we visited on our walks.

Last night, was our annual Peer Mentor Appreciation Dinner and it was an evening filled with fellowship, love, laughter, and so much gratitude.

Our peer mentors are the living embodiment of the spirit of our recovery program. As participants themselves, they are deeply committed to their own recovery journeys but they take it one step further by walking alongside others to offer guidance and encouragement. Their willingness to give back what was so freely given to them is what Healing Transitions is all about. We are endlessly grateful for each of you and are honored to have the opportunity to celebrate you each year.

Today, we had the honor and privilege to present the Wake County Commissioners with a plaque as a token of our gratitude for their continued and foundational support. Thank you for standing by our side for the last 25 years, and here's to 25 more!

25 years ago today, the Healing Place of Wake County opened its doors for the very first time. Since then, thousands of men and women have found recovery and healing within these walls and it would not have been possible without the support of folks like you. Thank you for being with us every step of the way and we can't wait to celebrate this huge milestone with you.
