Dear Family and Friends,
It is officially that time of the year again. Jill’s Heroes will be participating in the Walk for Hope on Sunday, October 9th this year in Raleigh. As most of you know, our family began walking in 1996 when my mom formed this team in memory of her mother Jill. This will mark the 20th year and anniversary of Jill’s Heroes- oh how time flies!
The Foundation of Hope exists to fund research and treatment of mental illnesses. As surprising as it may be, one in four Americans live with a mental illness. From depression to bipolar disorder, anxiety to pain medication addiction, mental disorders affect millions of people in our country and around the world. Whether or not we know it, we ALL have friends and loved ones who have been touched by a mental illness. Being an ER nurse, I witness weekly the negative impact and affect of these illnesses on individuals and their families in our community. My sister Madison works in the social work field with mental health clients, and she also sees the huge need for more public awareness and funding for these illnesses.
The Foundation of Hope funds research projects that are making huge changes to the way we think about and treat these illnesses. Since 1984, the Foundation has funded over 120 research projects totaling $4.3 million, and leveraging over $140 million in federal grants. Please join us in taking steps to reduce the stigma of mental illnesses, along with being a part of funding research for a cure. You can do this by making a donation to the Foundation of Hope. Checks can be made out to “Walk for Hope” with “Jill’s Heroes” written in the memo line. Online donations can be made by going to www.walkforhope.com, and then click "2016 Walk Register/ Donate", and then "Search for a Team" in the green box, and then type in "Jill's Heroes", and click "Donate now." As always, we would love for you to join us on Sunday morning at 10 am to walk in Raleigh starting at the Angus Barn. We are so grateful for your continued support over the years. We couldn’t do this without you!
Love always,
Jillian and the Jill’s Heroes Walk for Hope Team
