ATTENTION! VETERAN SUPPORT NEEDED!!!
What: Rolesville Town Board of Commissioners Meeting
Where: Rolesville Town Hall, 502 Southtown Circle, Rolesville, NC 27571
When: Tuesday, May 7th, 7PM
Why: The Joel Fund is under contract on land in the heart of Rolesville to build a veteran community/resource center. The land needs to be rezoned from residential to commercial. The Joel Fund will be presenting to the town commissioners at this meeting and the commissioners will vote on whether or not to grant the rezoning. We need to pack the room full of Wake County veterans showing their support for the work we do within the veteran and military communities.
The issue: The oldest home in Rolesville sits on the land that The Joel Fund is under contract on. The home can not be added to the Historical Society of NC because it has been added on to, renovated, and updated over the years. There is not much left that is original to the home. The Joel Fund has met with Preservation NC and a contractor that specializes in historical renovations. The amount of money to renovate the historic home to bring it up to commercial code (and make it ADA compliant) is almost double the cost as it is to renovate one of the other homes on the land.
The possible solution: The Joel Fund will not be doing anything with the old home for quite a while and will work with Preservation NC to advertise the home as free to anyone who would like to pay to move it. If we are not able to find a suitable solution, we will explore a strategic demolition and save parts of the home to use in a new construction building that will be part of the veteran center. We would also use that as an opportunity to share the story of the old home and we would look into getting a historical site marker for the land. All of this would be the last case scenario.
