In case your christmas shopping is not over, I came across this adorable "toy" and I want to tell you why I love it.
One of the things I see in my older students is poor ability to visualize what they read or hear. As a result, they have trouble following directions, holding information in their short term memory and comprehending what they read or listen to when there aren't any visuals to accompany the story. One theory is the evolution of moving from verbal storytelling to all "video telling." When listening to a story, your brain fills in the visual. When given the visual, that part of your brain doesn't need to be activated and later, it's harder to engage as needed when visuals are reduced in later school years.
This Toniebox is completely auditory and thus the listener has to create in their mind's eye the visual. It's adorable and it has the opportunity to collect the Tonies--figurines that have different stories and songs.
The biggest adventures to ever come in a little box. The Toniebox is an imagination-building, screen-free digital listening experience that plays stories, songs, and more. Designed for little listeners ages 3+, it’s the perfect storytime companion for tiny hands and active imaginations.
