With the holidays coming up, everyone’s thinking about food, but what about solid foods for your baby? If you’re wondering whether it’s time, here are a few helpful tips:

How old is your baby?
The recommends waiting until 6 months to introduce solids.

Is your baby ready? Look for readiness cues:
✨ Sitting up with good head control
✨ Diminished tongue-thrust reflex
✨ Showing interest in food

How to start? Start small! Breastmilk or formula is still their main source of nutrition. Offer tiny tastes of fruits or veggies, perfect first foods.

What if your baby isn’t into it yet? That’s okay! Remember: food before one is just for fun. Keep offering small tastes and let them explore. They’ll get there 💙

Today is World Prematurity Day 🌍

A baby is considered to be premature, a “preemie,” if they are born before 37 weeks. Many preemies may need time in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) while they continue to develop breathing, blood sugar regulation, temperature regulation, and feeding skills.

Having a premature baby can feel overwhelming for many parents. Our postpartum doulas are a great resource to help reduce that feeling of overwhelm and help you build your confidence💙

Sending big hugs to all those preemie families today!

The holiday season is fast approaching! Are your postpartum boundaries ready? 💙🌲

As a parent, caregiver, or guardian, it’s okay to say no to gatherings, extra travel, or letting everyone handle your little one. Doulas of Raleigh understand that protecting your family’s health and well-being comes first.

So set those boundaries unapologetically, and trust that your needs are reason enough.

One of the common symptoms of pregnancy is morning sickness 🚽 🤢

We aren’t sure who said it can only happen in the morning - we are guessing people who have never been pregnant - because morning sickness can definitely happen any time of day.

Here are a few tips to help you manage “morning” sickness:

🍴Eat small meals frequently to help minimize nausea

🍬Suck on hard candy (peppermint, lemon, ginger, and cinnamon seem to be the best flavors)

👃 Avoid strong smells

🧊Try to stay hydrated. If you can’t keep water down, try drinking broth, ginger tea, or ginger ale. Eating ice chips may also be a good alternative.

If you need help beyond these recommendations, ask your care provider about over the counter medications and/or prescription medications.
