For almost 18 years, I’ve been trying to blow the whistle on the abhorrent amount of fraud happening inside Minnesota’s PCA (now CFSS) program; the same fraud that’s now making national news. None of this is surprising to those of us who have been trying to warn DHS for nearly two decades.
I’ve reported major concerns, submitted evidence and have even sat down with executives at DHS and the Attorney General's office to help fix the system. Instead of being listened to, I’ve been ignored, dismissed and punished with paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines for fraud I did not commit while those who commit the fraud continue operating freely to this day.
Years ago, I had a situation involving a former client and a group of PCAs funneling money to a terrorist group overseas that drew the attention of federal authorities. I cooperated fully and did everything I could to protect my business, my employees and my clients. DHS did nothing. I believe the client still receives services to this day.
The truth is, honest providers have been punished for trying to protect the system. Fraudsters have been rewarded for exploiting it. and DHS leadership under Governor Walz has consistently failed to act.
At some point, accountability has to start at the top.
Minnesota deserves leadership that understands what’s happening, listens to frontline providers and takes fraud seriously. We do not need or want leadership that waits for a national scandal to pretend to care.
Minnesota needs real reform. Real oversight. Real consequences for the people actually committing fraud; not the providers who have spent years begging DHS to pay attention.
I’m speaking out now because enough is enough. Minnesota deserves better. Taxpayers deserve better. Honest providers deserve better.
