Ghana! It’s been a few weeks since we returned from Accra. The week flew by, and there were a lot of amazing experiences, friendly people, and opportunities to make a difference. From the moment we arrived we were busy. We spent a good deal of time at Korle Bu Teaching hospital, the main facility in Accra. 2000 beds, a never ending influx of patients, and limited supplies and resources to care for those in need. Our host, Dr. Teddy Totimeh, and his team perform miracles daily, and we were honored to help out. They handle pathologies we don’t see in the US, and stretch limited resources beyond the max to care for those who can’t afford it. We also spent time at Accra Medical Centre, an advanced private hospital performing endoscopic surgeries. Dr. Ryan Osborne, my close friend and ENT surgeon, organized this mission and handled large facial tumors and pediatric otolaryngology problems daily, built playgrounds and playing fields for a local orphanage, and delivered instruments and medical devices that will be used for years to come.
