Lori Crosby, MFT, RPT - Marriage & Family Therapy

Lori Crosby, MFT, RPT - Marriage & Family Therapy I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT #89606) and a Registered Play Therapist in Rancho With couples, I use the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy.

My name is Lori Crosby, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT #89606) and a Registered Play Therapist in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. My mission is to bring healing to children, teens, and adults through the power of play. I specialize in treating individuals, couples, and families struggling with issues related to divorce, foster/adoption, abuse, child misbehavior (acting out), bullying, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship problems. Because I incorporate play-based techniques into my practice, I am especially effective with young children (ages 3+) who struggle to express themselves verbally. My clients learn to express their emotions, take responsibility for their actions, develop better solutions to their problems, and interact more positively with the people around them. My primary therapeutic approach is Client-Centered Play Therapy, a scientifically-validated approach for treating child and adult clients. I also utilize EMDR and Trauma-Focused CBT, which are evidence-based treatment approaches shown to help children and adults overcome trauma-related difficulties. Although many therapists use elements of play therapy, I am a Registered Play Therapist. I have received over 150 hours of play therapy training, and I have over 1,000 hours of experience implementing play therapy. I am prepared to help bring healing and peace to you and your family!

On my way this morning… to drop off my 4th grade daughter… to her second to last day of school… we talked. I told her I had something awful to share. She was quite. I told her about Uvalde, Texas.

I knew she needed to hear about it from me. I was so nervous to tell here about what happened. For all the reasons. It’s so hard to know what to say. And how to have these unimaginably horrific conversations.

But. We talked. We shared feelings. We express emotions. I allowed her to see me cry a little.

Then, we prayed together.

I know tonight we will have much more to process. Like all of you.

I know many of you are asking this question. How do we talk to our kids about school shootings? I found this article very helpful as I’ve begun to have this conversation with my kids.

My heart is broken for all of the people affected by this horrific tragedy. 💔

Take an age-based approach to discussing news of school shootings with kids. Advice from Common Sense Media editors.

This is an excellent article written by the board of the Association for Play Therapy discussing why play therapy is an appropriate for treating children with PTSD.

"Play therapy is a developmentally congruent intervention that helps children build coping skills, enhance their capacity for self-regulation, and promotes positive self-esteem. (Bratton et al., 2005; Lin & Bratton, 2015; Ray et al., 2015). The Association for Play Therapy defines play therapy as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.” (See
