TWAA Collaborative, The West African Art Collaborative, LLC
where we support wholehearted living by offering holistic wellness experiences rooted in movement cultural arts, and community care. From its origins the collaborative focuses on teaching and performing traditional West African dancing and drumming with a total body and spirit focused experience. The company captures its audience with its diverse programming, vivacious energy, multi-level and assorted choreography, colorful costumes, and the director's spin on audience participation. At its core, TWAA Collaborative, inspires and advocates for people to find their own and distinct path to healing. "Each person is as unique as a fingerprint therefore each healing journey should include a sense of that person's individuality. Under the directions of Christa, a.k.a. "Twaa," the company's main principle has always been based on the African proverb that "When the Music changes, so does the dance." The Art of dance, and living furthermore, "… should accompany the music of life, whether that is in thought, physical form, or esoterically. Dance is an announcement of emotions that exists within us all; a way for us to express and clearly convey our feelings." And 'healing' is the choreography that prepares you for the dance most appropriate for each of life's ballrooms. African dance, more often than not encompasses the vital movements of living beings to express stories, lessons, sentiments, culture and philosophy. Because African dance exists as such, it is therefore the foundation for the Collaborative and the model for its teaching-style. From its honored and humble origins in a Karate dojo, and on to a several parks and then studios, TWAA Collaborative has maintained its mobility as part of its character and mission go serve the community, locally and globally. This is why the grand opening (or re-opening) is so monumental for the Collaborative. Classes are now online and have been modified to serve a greater community which includes persons of able and non-abled bodies. While the director, TWAA, is always flexible and welcomes the opportunity to teach in any space the majority of classes are online to align with the recent world-crisis, Covid 19.
