Please join us in welcoming Betty McKinnell, APRN, FNP-C, to our primary care team!

Betty will provide care at Gifford’s Chelsea Health Center on Mondays and at Berlin Health Center on Wednesdays and Fridays. She is a dedicated family nurse practitioner with experience caring for patients across the lifespan and brings a strong background in primary care, urgent care, and community health.

In addition to her clinical work, Betty volunteers as a provider at People’s Health & Wellness Clinic, where she delivers primary care services and supports patients through exams, treatment, and referrals.

Originally from Connecticut, Betty recently relocated to Vermont to be closer to family and looks forward to caring for patients in the community.

As Vermont’s first Critical Access Hospital, and first RAKA (Robotically-Assisted Knee Arthroplasty) program, to offer the TMINI® Miniature Robotic System for total knee replacement, we’re proud to expand access to innovative care for our community.

THINK Surgical’s TMINI® system uses state-of-the-art technology to assist surgeons during procedures with a handheld, wireless robotic tool that they guide every step of the way, supporting accuracy, consistency, and surgical precision. At Gifford, a simple question sparked a big transformation: “If food is medicine, how are we feeding our family?”

Our team has been reimagining what hospital food can be, bringing in culinary talent, focusing on fresh, local ingredients, and creating meals that are both nourishing and delicious. From made-to-order favorites to thoughtfully designed patient menus, the Gifford kitchen is raising the bar, one plate at a time.

We believe care goes beyond medicine, and our volunteer chaplaincy program is a powerful example of that compassion in action.

In FY25, our dedicated chaplain volunteers contributed over 1,000 hours of service, including 1,848 visits with patients and 249 visits with staff. These volunteers are present every single day of the year, offering comfort, connection, and support through our non-denominational chaplaincy program.

From visiting hospital patients and residents in our nursing home to being available in the emergency department at any hour of the night, our chaplains provide a steady and reassuring presence when it’s needed most.

“We have a ministry of presence,” shares Rev. Tim Eberhardt, who supervises the program and leads a free weekly grief support group at Gifford. “We’re there for the patient.”

We are deeply grateful for the compassion, dedication, and humanity our chaplain volunteers bring to our community each day. 💚

March is National Social Work Month, and we’re proud to recognize and celebrate the incredible social workers here at Gifford!

Recently, the Vermont State Legislature and Governor Phil Scott proclaimed March as Social Work Month, honoring the vital role social workers play across Vermont. This recognition reflects what we see every day at Gifford: compassion, strength, and dedication in action.

Our social workers support patients and families through life’s most challenging moments. They are advocates, listeners, and problem-solvers who make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many in our community.
