Hey everyone! Ashley Purdin here...
We are looking at adding some new horses to the program! We rely heavily on donations so I figured I would share my story about Jake!
My parents bought Jake when I was 14 and he was 6!
He soon became my heart horse and we did everything together. We literally grew up together. He was there through it all. He taught me so much about horse behavior and training. He taught Tim how to ride. And we both cowboy raced him and trail rode him extensively. Definitely a been there, done that horse.
At a certain point though all of the traveling for trail rides (Colorado, Oklahoma etc...) became too stressful for him due to his age and we decided to retire him. Jake however is a people horse and I knew he would not be satisfied with a pasture retirement. And I wanted what was best for HIM.
That is when I approached Joy Miller and Brian Miller about donating Jake to New Horizon Ranch. I knew there were many good years still left in him and that he was very safe for anyone to ride. My hope was that he would be able to serve their program well and that in turn, Jake would get the attention that he needed. Both of those hopes came true for Jake.
He is now a integral part of the program serving in Equine Assisted Learning, Therapeutic Riding and Summer Camps. He looks fabulous and is genuinely happy in their herd and program. I am proud knowing that my heart horse can be of service to others living out a purpose.
I donated Jake to NHR in March 2022 and could not be happier for everyone involved.
Feel free to reach out to us if you think you have a horse to donate that would be a good fit for us. Safe, sound, sane and healthy are a must! Age wise teens are best. But other options may be considered. Horses that are currently being ridden or have had less than a year off are ideal. Pasture pets unfortunately are not a good fit for us they must be gentle under saddle. Must be sound walk trot at the very least. Some of our more advanced riders do enjoy loping however.
Please share and comment on this post so more people see it!!
Thanks for reading!
