Well folks, life is ever changing. This is something I have been thinking about since I had to close the physical store, maybe it was a sign from the universe that I was supposed to take a different path. Obviously I didn't listen and I reopened online, so the universe decided to send me another sign. Our family dynamic is changing again (no not another pregnancy lol) and so I have decide to change with it. The online store will be closing, I want to turn the website into a place where I can share recipes, tips, videos and just have some fun. I can see some small batch goodies here and there that I'll list on social media.

That being said, I would like to offer 50% off my remaining inventory! Use code Fire50 to take 50% your entire order for a fire sale just in time for Christmas! Along with shipping options I will still have two pick up dates available this month on the 9th and the 23rd for those in the Black Hills area. If you're looking for herbs please see the herb list on the website, 2 oz min per herb.

The significance of the season and the timing is not lost on me either. As we approach the solstice I reminded that this is a time of growth and renewal. While this isn't the complete end, I want to thank all those who have been with me on this amazing ride. And I cant wait to share this transition with you as we enter the new year!

Throughout ancient civilizations such as the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, rosehips were highly regarded for their medicinal attributes. The intrinsic value of these fruits was widely recognized by these cultures, who utilized them for a wide range of health concerns, including wounds, digestive problems, and respiratory issues. The effective nature of rosehips serves as a testament to the early understanding of their healing potential.

During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, rosehips gained popularity in the field of herbal remedies. They became essential components in herbal teas, syrups, and ointments designed to address various health ailments. Their significant vitamin C content made them invaluable in combating scurvy, a prevalent disease affecting sailors and land-dwellers during those times.

The importance of rosehips extended to the battlefields of World War II. In Europe, where vitamin C-rich foods were scarce, rosehips played a crucial role in preventing scurvy and supplementing the diets of many individuals. People relied on these fruits as an easily accessible source of essential nutrients, highlighting their value in times of crises.

Rosehips have become intertwined with the cultural folklore of various societies. In certain traditions, rosehips were believed to offer protection against malevolent forces when hung in homes. They symbolized love and romance, and wishes were made upon consuming them. In Celtic folklore, rosehips were associated with fairies and the mystical realm, adding an air of enchantment to the fruit. The resilient and thorny nature of the Rose hip plant made it a symbol of steadfastness and perseverance.

Elderberry folklore and uses can vary greatly across cultures and regions. In some parts of the world, elderberries and elder trees have different symbolic meanings and associations. They have been used for thousands of years for their medicinal properties. Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician, referred to the elderberry as his "medicine chest" because of its many uses.

Elderberry wine has been made for centuries in Europe and is considered a traditional remedy for various ailments. Folk medicine often recommended elderberry-based preparations to alleviate symptoms of the common cold and flu.

In European folklore, there was a belief in the "Elder Mother" or "Elder Tree Spirit." It was thought that this spirit resided in the elder tree and could bring blessings or curses depending on how the tree was treated. Cutting down an elder tree without proper respect was believed to invoke the wrath of the Elder Mother.

Elderberries were brought to North America by European settlers. Native American tribes and early American colonists learned to use them for food and medicine. They made jams, pies, and herbal infusions.

In Europe, during World War II, the government encouraged people to cultivate elderberries. This was due to their high vitamin C content, which helped combat scurvy and boost the immune system in a time when citrus fruits were scarce.

The elder tree's fragrant white flowers also have their own set of traditions. Elderflower water was used as a cosmetic and perfume. In some cultures, elderflowers were used to make champagne and cordials for celebratory occasions.

Elderberries and elder trees have a rich tapestry of history and folklore that reflects their diverse uses, cultural significance, and their connection to traditional medicine and superstitions. The beliefs and practices associated with elderberries have evolved over centuries, making them a fascinating subject in the realm of botanical folklore.
