This has been a productive year for the School. I get traffic from the website and here with people and their questions on gun safety and training.

I operate year round inside and out in the elements in Rapid City, SD.

Again, I offer gun safety, civilian defense scenarios, concealed carry considerations, marksmanship, pistol/rifle/shotgun familiarization, and how to stay on the right side of the South Dakota self-defense laws. I also have a vast array of pistols and long guns you can use if you don’t have your own before buying your own.

The training provided comes from my 24 years of service as a local and federal law enforcement officer. Please reach out with any questions and book training sessions geared to your specific needs. Training is scheduled at the client’s leisure. I am retired and available almost any time. 🇺🇸

The Shooting School had the pleasure of working with Jesi. Jesi has several pistols and rifles she had not used in a while and she reached out to get some refresher training. She showed up with her Kimber Mako and AR and we got in a two-hour session that covered marksmanship, stance, grips, and getting shots on target in self-defense scenarios.

This is one of the targets she was absolutely smashing with her AR in various single and multiple targets scenarios. This was the close one and there was another about 20 yards up the hill she was pounding. I had her moving to cover and firing off single and multiple shots.

You see a consistent group, which is all you need in a defensive scenario. She had her “green dot” optic in the bullseye but the offset (distance between her sight and rifle barrel) caused rounds to hit low at close distances. In self-defensive scenarios the key is to hit the threat first, then again if necessary. All of her shots were on target, which was beautiful to see.

Also, it was beautiful seeing her confidence grow.

If you have fi****ms and want some instruction to own, maintain, and use them safely and lawfully, this is what I do. Again, safe and lawful instruction to prevent accidents and to keep regular people on the right side of the law. 🎯 🇺🇸

I provided service to a married couple yesterday afternoon. Maggie and Andy came from New Jersey and now live here in Rapid City. We went over South Dakota concealed carry laws, self-defense scenarios, weapon retention, movement and drawing from concealment. They both had shooting experience but haven’t fired their Glocks much over the past few years.

High Plains provided instruction to sharpen their skills and some new techniques. As a bonus we had some unintentional operator induced errors (a stovepipe jam and a failure to feed due to obstructing the pistol’s slide from functioning) and it was awesome to show them pistol grip techniques to minimize these issues.

If you own a firearm, know how it works and how to use it safely. This is what I do.

This was Andy’s last target of the day. He hammered it during our draw from concealment and movement drills. Good self-defense hits are any hits on target. When we slow the drills down, Andy and Maggie had tighter groups, but this is quality civilian shooting. 🇺🇸🤟🏽

Summer is here and the School just booked two groups who are asking for a briefing on South Dakota Self-Defense laws and some range time after recently moving to Rapid City. Gun laws and public perceptions can vastly differ from state to state. It is smart to learn what your new environment says about gun safety, ownership and self-defense.

High Plains is operated by a 24-year law enforcement veteran who has testified in state and federal court, responded to shootings, conducted investigations, and received countless hours of fi****ms instruction. Instruction provided is rooted in real world experience.

This group of great people was celebrating a birthday. The School was asked to provide a safety briefing and provide a shooting experience. High Plains Shooting School provided 9MM, .40 SW, .45 ACP and .44 Magnum pistols, a shotgun, and an AR. The group had a great time and learned how to safely handle fi****ms.
