GUESS THE FUNCTION OF THE BEHAVIOR!💙

✨ Answer: Escape! ✨

In this example, the child tried to leave the work area right after being given a task. That tells us the behavior is serving an escape function — meaning the child is trying to get out of doing something they find difficult, boring, or overwhelming.

💡 In ABA, knowing the function of a behavior helps us respond in ways that are supportive and effective. If a child is using escape behaviors, we might:

Teach them to ask for a break appropriately

Adjust the task to make it more manageable

Gradually build their tolerance for longer or harder work

👉 By understanding why a behavior happens, we can teach healthier, more independent ways for children to get their needs met.

Our hearts are happy and our souls are so full. We love how we come together as a community. We want to thank everyone who helped and participated in our official Grand Opening. We want to thank Dee’s food truck for coming and sharing some amazing food and beverages, the Shining Pathway Staff for your amazing work with making this go. This def don’t happen without you all. Brian Ostrander who has been a huge supporter from day one. That’s my brother too, love you dude. Miss Ruth and the Autism Society. We always love working with this specific organization. Lastly, the community of Rapid City. You all are amazing and we’re so blessed to be able to serve each and every one of you.
