We get asked a lot at Black Hills Ultrasound if we can perform a BUBBLE Study or Echocardiogram with Saline Contrast. The answer is YES! Yes, we can!

This is an interesting story to raise awareness of a very common cause of stroke in young patients, a patent foramen ovale or PFO. Apparently, Hailey Beiber suffered a mini stroke one year ago due to a sizeable PFO in her heart. Patent Foramen Ovale affects approximately 23% of the general population and is a persistent opening between the right and left atria (upper chambers of the heart) after we are born. It is a normal pathway for blood during fetal development. For most of us, it closes spontaneously, and we are not at risk for this type of stroke. Mitral Valve Prolapse, Aortic Valve Stenosis, Mitral Valve Regurgitation, Aortic Valve Insufficiency..some of the most common Heart Valve problems that we see by echocardiography every day. Talk to your doctor if you are short of breath with exertion, experiencing swelling in your legs or palpitations. All of these symptoms, along with a heart murmur, indicate possible Heart Valve Disease. ❤️

We are celebrating at Black Hills Ultrasound and February 22 is Heart Valve Disease Day, a day to raise awareness about cardiac valve disease along with The American Heart Association.

If you have a heart murmur, ask your doctor to order an echocardiogram, (Heart Ultrasound), so you know where you stand, especially if you have heart disease in your family or have symptoms of shortness of breath, swelling in your legs or palpitations. Knowledge is the first step to the best possible outcome and prevention of congestive heart failure. ❤️ ❤
