Fruit flies trying to claim your countertop? Here’s a simple plant-powered trick I love using in my kitchen.

Add a few drops of Lemongrass ct. Rhodinol (Cymbopogon citratus ct rhodinol) to a small ceramic diffuser — like this sweet little daisy — and let the bright, citrusy aroma fill the space. Fruit flies tend to dislike the scent, making it a gentle way to help keep them from gathering around your fruit bowl or sink.

I love using ceramic diffusers in the kitchen because they’re simple, beautiful, and don’t require water or electricity. Just a few drops of oil and the plant’s natural aroma does the rest.

Nature has a beautiful way of helping us care for our homes.

What's in a name?

Well depending on the region you're in a pop could be a soda or a hat could be a cap. This goes with the common names of essential oils as well.

One way to make sure you are getting the correct oil is to learn the Latin name because no matter where you're at in the world that never changes.

Let me share my own experience with this that just happened last night.
I was flipping through the pages of an aromatherapy book that I'm getting ready to start and I noticed the spelling CAMOMILE. I was dumbfounded as I stood there questioning my judgment on this book. These thoughts went through my head.... The latin names were correct. I thought the author was very reputable in the aromatherapy field, could this just be a typo? No it was spelled that way throughout the book. Finally I went to Google and after a quick search found that Chamomile is the American spelling and the Camomile spelling is frequently used in British English.
Out of all of my years of working with essential oils this is my first when it comes to a different common name.

Diffusing essential oils in the car is about so much more than just scent.

With five kids, long drives can get a little… loud and overwhelming. Instead of just powering through, I choose to shift the energy.

To help center and ground not only myself but the kids as well, I diffuse a calming blend of:

✨ Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
✨ Vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanoides)
✨ Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens)
✨ Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)

Just 5–8 drops on the back of my ceramic car diffuser and within minutes the entire van fills with a peaceful, grounding aroma. The kids’ volume softens, my mind slows down, and the whole vibe in the van feels calm and balanced.

A small ritual that makes a big difference in our day.
