Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs) are independent, non-profit organizations led and governed by representatives of local communities of individuals in recovery. As an RCO, Open United Recovery Place’s (OUR Place) message of empowerment has transformed the landscape of recovery in Portage County. OUR Place is dedicated to helping anyone impacted by addiction and mental illness achieve long term, sustained recovery. OUR Place does this through holistic programming, community outreach, and leadership. Our programs provide a space for mutual support, family support and education of multiple pathways to recovery. In addition to our programs, OUR Place hosts an array of safe drug and alcohol-free social events and activities that promote mental and physical health for individuals and families. Our outreach efforts connect people to resources and provide drop-in support. Through all of our activities, OUR Place facilitates personal development through recovery advocacy, leadership opportunities, and peer mentorship which strengthen individual and community recovery.

Everyday Recovery Spotlight:
We are so grateful for the women of OUR Community! 💜
There is something so powerful that happens when women in recovery come together… not *just* to stay sober, but to grow, to heal, and to walk the path shoulder to shoulder.

Recently, a group of our lovely ladies spent the day doing the work:
⭐️ Step work together ⭐️ Visiting Dr. Bob’s Home ⭐️ Sharing prayer, reflection, and fellowship ⭐️ Supporting each other through the journey ⭐️ Finding fun, laughter, and genuine connection along the way!

✨ Community is the medicine. ✨
And these women are living proof of the magic that happens when we believe in change and put the effort in.

We don’t do this alone.
We show up for one another.
We lift each other up.

We are so grateful for (and proud of) the work they put in: the honesty, the courage, the resilience, and the willingness to grow.
This is what recovery looks like. This is how HOPE spreads. 💜

Huge shoutout to Gen, Stephanie, Lea, Amber, Cassie, and all the women who consistently show up… for themselves, for each other, and for this phenomenal community.
Keep shining, ladies. You are living proof of the miracle of Recovery! 🌈⭐️

OUR Place is a lifeline for hundreds of people and families in our community, and like every grassroots, peer-led organization, we’re entering that tough end-of-year stretch where every dollar matters.
We lead with compassion.
We do everything we can to support anyone who comes through our doors.
We show up every day.
We keep the doors open, the lights on, and the love glowing… no matter what.

If OUR Place has touched your life… your family… your friends… or just your heart…

Please consider supporting our Giving Tuesday fundraiser today.

Even $5 or $10 helps us bridge the end of year gap.

✨ This is where it all began… ✨
Flashback to Our First-Ever Event: “Get Your Recovery On” (April 2018)

Before we had a building, before we had a sign… we had each other. 💜
These photos take us back to the night that started it all — the very first community event that would grow into OUR Place: Open United Recovery.

Back then, we were just a handful of people with big dreams and even bigger hope; believing that recovery could be celebrated, not hidden.
What began as one night of laughter, food, and games became a movement of compassion, healing, and purpose that continues to evolve today.

It was so funny because we had folks from different programs sitting on opposite sides of the room like a middle school dance 😅 — until the snacks, conversation, and a *legendary* round of musical chairs totally broke the ice. By the end of the night, everyone was celebrating, laughing, and connecting — exactly what recovery community is all about. 💜 It’s always been a team effort at OUR Place. 🙌

We’ve come a long way since that night, but the light you see in these faces?
That’s the magic that still what drives us every single day.

💬 Drop a comment if you were there back in the day — or joined the movement somewhere along the way. We’d love to reminisce with you about your favorite OUR Place moments! 💜

✨ 🎃 Spooky Sober Saturday was an absolute blast! 👻💜
Costumes, candy, Karaoke… and some creatively spooky food! 🕷️
We had the Nacho Nightmare Graveyard Bar, Creepy Casserole, Guts Pasta, and a questionable but legendary “Rat” dessert (pretty sure it was marshmallows… I just didn’t have time to find out 😅).

👦The kids crushed it with their costumes and games — shoutout to our little Kool-Aid Man winner(No favoritism involved😂).

🧌 Adult Costume Champs:
🏆 Tooth Fairy 🧚🏼‍♂️& Tooth🦷
🏆 Garden Gnome 🧙🏻‍♀️

🍨 And the sweetest part of the night… we celebrated Young James’s 2 YEARS of sobriety with a giant ice cream cake! 🥳 He’s doing incredible work leading our Teens & Young Adults Group, and we couldn’t be more proud. 💪💜

🎤 Wrapped the night with Some Spooky Soberoke and good vibes all around.
Recovery really can be fun — and this crew proves it EVERY TIME! 💃🏼🕺🏿

🍕💜 Sponsor Spotlight: Belleria Pizza & Italian Restaurant Kent 💜🍝

We’re thrilled to recognize Belleria Kent for their generous support of the 6th Annual Sober October Recovery Fest 2025!

Belleria Kent has gone above and beyond, donating $150, along with sheet pizzas and pans of pasta to help feed our crowd and keep the community celebration going strong. 🙌

This partnership holds special meaning — Belleria was the first place to give Jessika (OUR Place’s Founder & Executive Director) a job when she began rebuilding her life in recovery back in 2012. Their kindness, belief, and willingness to give someone a chance made a lasting impact — and it’s incredible to see things come full circle as they now stand beside OUR Place in supporting recovery in Portage County. 💜

Please join us in thanking Belleria Kent for showing what community, compassion, and second chances are all about!
