Dr. Ernest Edward Quimby, Jr.

Ernest Edward Quimby Jr., known to many as Dr. Ed Quimby, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26th at The Crossing Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge.

Ernest lived a life marked by discipline, achievement, and dedication—both on the pitcher’s mound and in his professional career. A gifted athlete from a young age, he graduated from Rayville High School in 1961, where he distinguished himself as a standout pitcher and earned All-State honors in baseball that same year. He continued his baseball career as a 1963 All-Conference pitcher at NLSC, later going on to pitch as a relief pitcher in Minor League Baseball within the San Francisco Giants organization—a testament to his talent, work ethic, and competitive spirit.

Following his athletic pursuits, Ed turned his focus to academics and medicine. He studied General Studies at Northeast Louisiana University, Class of 1972, and completed Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental studies at ULM. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from LSU Health School of Dentistry, graduating on May 31, 1976.

Dr. Quimby practiced general dentistry in Baton Rouge for over 40 years, dedicating his career to serving his community with compassion, integrity, and commitment to patient care. His practice touched generations of families, and he was deeply respected by patients and colleagues alike.
Ed later remarried Suet Winnie Quimby, with whom he shared companionship and support. He is survived by his twin daughters, Dr. Keleigh Q. Lascari, DDS and Kendahl C. Quimby, BCO, FASO. He was a proud grandfather to Mason Swenson, Cohen Lascari, and Jack Lascari, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Dr. Quimby will be remembered for his strength, determination, and the lasting impact he made—on the baseball field, in his dental practice, and most importantly, within his family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. open to the public at Brown-Holley Funeral Home. Followed by a graveside service at Greer Cemetery at 12:00 p.m.

She was born to James Henry Sr. and Jewell Parker Townsend on October 4, 1942. She was one of 11 kids. She learned the meaning of work from an early age working alongside her family on the farm. Later in life, she began working at Start Baptist Church as a custodian, but in reality, she was so much more than that in the 30+ years she worked there. Along with working at the church, she was asked to work at Start Elementary School by the principal at the time. She blessed those halls and loved on many students for 20+ years.

She was a woman that wore many hats. She didn’t put up with much. She was known for her resilience, a fierce prayer warrior, and had a true servant’s heart until the very end. Throughout her life, she was full of strength, guidance, and unwavering love for all of those around her. She was a faithful member of Start Baptist church for many years.

She married her one true love, Wade, on December 1, 1962, and together, they had two sons. They were married 60 years before he passed in 2023. They lived a life full of love and adventures leaving so many memories to cherish.

Waiting with open arms at Heaven’s gates will be her beloved husband, Wade; grandson, K.C.; parents, James and Jewell; sister, Anna; and brother, James.

Left to cherish her memory are her pride and joys; two sons, Greg (Tammie) and Kenny; four grandchildren, Christopher (Molly), Sarahann (D.J.), Joshua (Haley), and Matthew (Dorri); thirteen great-grandchildren, Alice, Easton, Avery, Mason, Emmett, Bryce, Maverick, Emma, Wrenleigh, Olivia, Emily, Jackson, and Brooklynn; siblings, Sherman (Lou), Johnny Mac (Roxanne), Roland (Gloria), Benny (Im), George, Doris, Dianne, and Pat; in-laws, Loretta (Randy), Jimmy, Houston (Pat), and Shirley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were James Waldron, Elliot Colvin, Tyler Higginbotham, Chris Turbeville, Delbert Crow, Jeremy Crow, Jonathan Crow, and John Hatten.

Big thank you to her sister, Pat, and her “daughter”, Loretta, for their special love and attention during this last phase of her life. Special thanks to Elara Caring for the exceptional care provided to our loved one. Forever family.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Jeff Thomas’ St. Jude Marathon fundraiser.

Jason Wayne Huff

Jason Wayne Huff passed from this life at the University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 15, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Jason was born in Monroe, Louisiana on February 1, 1981 to Jerry and Onngaleah Huff. As a young boy, Jason was full of energy and outside was the place he always wanted to be. Getting dirty, shooting his BB gun, the World Wrestling Federation and going riding with daddy were some of his favorite things.

Jason attended Riverfield Academy where he focused his attention on socializing and playing football. From his perch next to teachers’ desks, he made sure his buddies were entertained in some way or another. Despite his mischievous nature, Jason was beloved by the faculty and staff because he was respectful, always owned up to his antics, and accepted consequences without complaint.

On the football field, Jason led a tough defense as linebacker. What he lacked in size, he made up for in pure grit and determination. He gave 100% and played sideline to sideline every minute he was on the field. His toughness, nose for the ball, and no quit attitude set him apart and earned him many honors and awards.

Upon high school graduation in 2000, Jason used the valuable skills he had acquired while working many summers and weekends alongside his father to begin his work as a plumber. As a Master Plumber and Master Natural Gas Fitter, Jason took great pride in building his business into one that would be known for getting the job done right the first time. He loved his customers, treated them fairly, and always tried to do the best job that he could for them.

It was also in the halls of Riverfield that Jason would meet the love of his life and future wife, Alana Jill Truelove. Their first date to Frank and Janie's in 1999 began a love story that would stand the test of time. They would make their forever home in East Carroll Parish and there, on the banks of Joes Bayou, would raise their sons, Colby and Carter. No matter how many hours Jason put in on the job each day or how hard the work was, he always had energy and time for his boys. He spent many many hours boat riding, setting and checking trotlines, fishing, frogging, and hunting with his sons. Despite his very demanding job, he never missed a baseball or football game his boys participated in. He took great joy in helping coach their p*e wee football teams. Every Friday night for the last 8 years he could be found anxiously watching his boys from the sideline. He was there after every game for a quick hug and word of encouragement no matter the outcome.

As an adult, Jason’s passion for Native American history grew and he became quite the expert in local artifacts. His love for arm wrestling and competition was renewed as an adult and for several years he traveled around, with his boys in tow, to compete in and win many competitions. Jason’s easy-going personality and patience paired with YouTube made him a jack of all trades. There wasn’t very much he couldn’t figure out or fix and he usually had his boys right there beside him, teaching them along the way.

Jason had friends from all walks of life as he treated each person he met with the same kindness and respect no matter their station in life. He had a heart for the less fortunate and always rooted for the underdog. His humble spirit is reflected in the incredible sons he helped raise.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 20 years Alana Huff, sons Colby Huff and Carter Huff, father Jerry Huff, mother Onngaleah Huff, sister Dawn (Joel) Weatherly, nieces Madison Truelove and Audrey Louise Weatherly, great nephew Stetson Ryder, father-in-law Freddie (Jami) Truelove, brother-in-law Andy (Jill) Truelove and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jason is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Rufus and Louise Huff, maternal grandparents J.D. Shiers, Bill and Audrey McGlothlin, and mother-in-law Judy Truelove.

Visitation was held at the Archibald Church of Christ, 474 Hwy 856, Rayville, LA 71269 on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 12:00 pm until funeral services begin at 2:00 pm with Travis Arrant officiating. Burial followed at Faith Memorial Cemetery, 7327 Highway 17 in Delhi, Louisiana 71232 under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, Louisiana.

Serving were pallbearers are Quincy Allen, John Michael Herrington, Heath Hutchinson, Casey Mathews, Andy Truelove, and Joel Weatherly.

There are no words to adequately express how grateful the family is to the ICU nursing staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center and University Medical Center. The loving and compassionate care that Jason received will never be forgotten.

Wanda "Mamma Sue" Cartlidge Trisler

On December 13, 2025, the long vigil of attention and care for Wanda Sue Cartlidge Trisler (a.k.a. “Mama Sue”) ended in her passing. She succumbed to the direct and indirect effects of Parkinson’s disease after a number of years dealing with the slowly disabling symptoms of that malady. She died in the home in which she spent her childhood, attended throughout her decline and debilitation, aside from professional help, by three children and their spouses, sixteen grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Mama Sue came into this world on June 12, 1947, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the delight of eager parents, Clyde Shelby and Yorkie Burns Cartlidge. An only child, she was reared in the rural community of Start, Louisiana, in Richland Parish, and proved herself in growth and development worthy of the love and attention paid her by supportive parents. To their abundant credit, she recounted that from her earliest recollections she could not remember a time when the family had not attended church together.

Sue graduated from Start High School in 1965 in a class numbering sixteen, most of whom were from families with years of community association and familiarity, resulting in an extremely tight-knit group. Neither the passage of time nor distance of separation ever seemed to lessen the loyalty or basic affection held by that group for one another, as witnessed by the joy exhibited at their reunions and the lines of communication maintained through the ensuing years.

She proved to be an excellent student both in high school and college, and in 1969 graduated from Northeast Louisiana State College with a degree in education. In August 1970, she married Marine PFC Walter Trisler and embarked on the adventure of his tour of duty in Washington, D.C.

The couple returned to the Start community after military duty to establish a permanent residence. In the following years, Mama Sue became the mother of three, the grandmother of sixteen, and, at the time of her passing, the great-grandmother of eight. These include first child Tara LeAnn, who with her husband, Dr. Robert Maddox, had a household of six surviving children and endured the sad loss of one. The Robert Maddox family presently consists of four married siblings and eight grandchildren, again having experienced the sad loss of one, as well as the loss of the head of the family, Dr. Maddox.

Second child Patrick Alexander Trisler and wife Shannon White Trisler have five children, with one married. Third child Amy Coleen Booth and husband Aaron have one married child and four still in school.

Through the grace of a kind providence, Mama Sue, in the early years of motherhood, came to realize that her children belonged to their Creator and not to her, and that as a parent she was duty-bound to rear her children in the admonition, knowledge, and responsibility to the Lord God of the Holy Bible.

That acknowledgment led, in time, to the founding of a Christian school, with Mama Sue serving as headmaster. The school, known as American Heritage Christian School, was active for five years, during which Mama Sue also served as instructor, teaching—with an aide—in a one-schoolroom setting as many as forty students across eight grade levels. Evidence of her success was witnessed in the placement of her students in other educational settings, where they were consistently ahead of their contemporaries in grade level. Having been unable to renew the building lease, the school closed, at which time she began the process of homeschooling, again with successful results.

Seeking a Reformed church witness in the area, the family joined what was then Auburn Avenue Presbyterian Church and pursued the work of witness through that guide. Mama Sue was involved in organizing homeschool conferences, hosting speakers and attendees for a yearly historical Christian conference that lasted eighteen years, and actively participating in other church activities.

Sue lived a blessed life. She leaves a family of Christians as the ultimate culmination of her work on earth, as blessed by her Lord. She now begins her future in glory. She will be laid to rest at a private service in the family cemetery on the banks of the Brimberry on December 16, 2025, with grandsons acting as pallbearers and Rev. Steve Wilkins officiating. A public memorial service was held at 4:00 p.m. that same day at Church of the Redeemer, 715 Cypress Street, West Monroe, Louisiana.

May her work toward a biblical culture be blessed through the ages. Thanks be to God.
