💜 Warrior Wednesday: Honoring Kaileigh & Her Loyal Partner, Henry 💜
Today, we’re honored to highlight an incredible epilepsy warrior, Kaleigh C., whose resilience, courage, and determination continue to inspire everyone around her.
Kaleigh also served on the Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana 'Seize the Day Youngsville' committee, playing an important role in bringing our community together and strengthening epilepsy awareness in Acadiana.
Here's her story:
"I was first diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 12 years old, so I’ve now been living with it for 13 years. I was diagnosed with left temporal lobe epilepsy with both grand mal and focal seizures. I am incredibly fortunate that my medication has helped keep my seizures mostly under control.
Along with medication, I try to support my health by taking daily vitamins, getting enough rest, staying active, and maintaining a balanced diet to help manage my everyday symptoms.
I wish more people understood that epilepsy is so much more than just seizures. It’s also the shaking hands, dizziness, medication side effects, anxiety, depression, and the invisible struggles that happen when no one is watching. It’s a deeply misunderstood condition, and there simply isn’t enough awareness about what people with epilepsy go through on a daily basis.
I am so thankful for the incredible support system I have in my family and friends, who uplift me and help me advocate for epilepsy awareness.
One of the moments I am most proud of in my epilepsy journey was getting to meet one of the members of Epilepsy Alliance Louisiana and share my story with her. I am so grateful to have met her and to be even a small part of the incredible work she has done for the epilepsy community.
If I could share one message with someone who is newly diagnosed, it would be this: Stay strong. I know how scary and overwhelming it feels, so lean on your support system. It’s okay to be angry. It’s okay to be sad or confused. Let yourself feel all of your emotions but always remember, you are more than your diagnosis!!
My favorite quote that keeps me grounded is a Bible verse:“When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”"
