Contrary to popular belief, pediatric SLPs don’t JUST play for a living.

What we do, and do very well, is play with a PURPOSE.

That means we deliberately embed skilled strategies into playful activities and interactions to enhance a child’s learning and development.

The “magic” is in the relationship...not in the toys themselves. The strategies we embed into playtime are the skilled service that we provide. And those same strategies can be embedded into other routines at home...such as mealtime, bath time, dressing time, and so on.

Many times when I ask why parents haven’t sought help for their child, they report being concerned with the cost of assessment and intervention... But did you know... Early intervention assessments (in the US) are FREE in all states? There’s seriously no reason NOT to get one if you -or anyone else- has concerns!
I will add that the cost of intervention varies, in some states it is free and in others (like Texas) it’s on a sliding scale- but still affordable! AND there are many medical diagnoses that are automatic qualifiers! Just search your state or county and Early Intervention and you can refer yourself! I’ll put links to the states where the majority of my followers are, and if you can’t find yours, comment with your state and I (or some of my amazing followers who are sometimes quicker than I am 🤣) will be happy to help you out! Or feel free to add any that aren’t here- we can make a difference for someone!

Great to see that our local Chuck E. Cheese is reaching out! A few families that I see have recently mentioned wanting to get their kiddos out and socializing with other children in safe, inclusive environments. 🙌🏼 This would be a great opportunity!

Chuck E. Cheese is trying to get the word out about their Sensory Sensitive Sundays. It's a day where kids with sensory needs can come enjoy the games in a less crowded atmosphere.

Nope!

🚶🏽‍♂️ proxemics (how close you are to another person)
🗣 intonation.. and so much more!
