At ODACS we didn’t add the ability to test for fentanyl because everyone else was doing it. We added it because the reality is… we didn’t have a choice.

Fentanyl is showing up in places no one ever expected. It’s being mixed into pills, powders — even things people assume are “safe.” And most of the time, the person using it has no idea it’s there.

ODACS has been around for 20+ years, that is long enough to notice drug patterns. And over the last couple of years, one pattern has become impossible to ignore: Fentanyl isn’t rare anymore. It’s everywhere. That’s why we made fentanyl testing available at ODACS.

It’s not automatically included in every panel, but employers now have the option to add it — and many do, because you can’t protect a workplace if you’re not testing for the substance causing the biggest risk.

Twenty years ago, a small idea born in a local firehouse turned into something incredible — a multi-state movement helping over 90,000 students since inception choose to stay drug free.
Drug Free Clubs of America gives high schoolers an easy way to say “no” — by saying “I’m in the club!” Members volunteer for random testing and earn rewards, gift cards, and access to fun events and an amazing group of peers who support one another.
For Kyle (co-founder of DFC), this goes far beyond his work at ODACS. It’s about building safer communities from the ground up — starting with our youth.

Stay in the Know: DOT Proposes Fentanyl Testing for Safety-Sensitive Transportation Workers
The U.S. Department of Transportation has proposed adding fentanyl (and its metabolite norfentanyl) to mandatory drug-testing panels for safety-sensitive roles across trucking, aviation, maritime, transit, and more.

What this means:
• Tests in both urine and oral fluid for fentanyl; norfentanyl in urine
• DOT aligning with HHS standards under a proposed update to 49 CFR Part 40
• Employers will need new lab capabilities, policy updates, and worker disclosure
• Public feedback on the proposal is open until October 17, 2025

Why it matters:
• Strengthens the response to the fentanyl overdose crisis
• Enhances workplace safety in industries where impairment carries high risks
