APRIL 8, 2024 there will be a total eclipse most prominently viewed in northern New England. You can only view this phenomenon safely during the phase of totality (right image).
During other stages you risk thermal damage to your eyes if you don't wear special eclipse viewing filters available on Amazon. Dark sunglasses or doubling up sunglasses do NOT offer protection.
If taking a photo with your cell phone, you must tape the eclipse viewing filter over the lens opening. I have viewed eclipses with the pin hole method; this certainly works but is not as dramatic.

IDeal Eye Care is back online with EyeMed insurance after a three month hiatus. Patients with EyeMed exam or material benefits who wish to purchase contacts, eyeglasses, or get an exam, should contact the practice to be certain to utilize these benefits in 2022.
We are still practicing Covid-19 safeguards including facemasks and frequent cleaning with UV and bleach solutions.

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. It is projected that in 2040, 112 million patients worldwide will have the disease.
Dr. McHale is currently taking advanced clinical training, both coursework and clinic, for glaucoma diagnosis and treatment. Training should be completed by January 2022. JANUARY is Glaucoma Awareness Month.

A study in JAMA Ophthalmology published 09/2020 suggests eyeglasses may be a successful barrier to SARS-CoV-2 virus, either by direct barrier to droplet infection and/or decreasing hand to eye touching.

Bausch & Lomb recently released a new, single use contact lens called "INFUSE". It has high oxygen permeability and claims to remain moist on the eye longer than competitors.

New computer/work lens from Unity optics for tired eyes at the computer. Unity Via OfficePro from VSP optics in 5 foot and 10 foot focal lengths helps reduce visual strain and fatigue, improve readability on digital displays and improves ergonomic comfort.
