At Assured Assistance, we talk a lot about caring for others.

But we also make time to care for ourselves.

Our team recently came together for a self care workshop — reflecting on what fills their cups, what they need more of, and how to show up even better for the people they serve.

Because caregiving is emotional work. And a team that feels supported brings that same energy into every home they enter.

This is what it looks like behind the scenes at Assured Assistance. Real people. Real connection. A team that actually cares about each other.

Getting a stubborn loved one to accept help is one of the hardest conversations families have.

Sherry has been having it for 10 years. Here's what she's learned.
It's not about what you need.
It's about how you frame what they get.

"I have a friend who wants to come play cards with you twice a week."
That's a very different conversation from "I can't do this anymore."

Sometimes the door to care opens with the right words.

💙 If you're not sure how to start that conversation, we're here to help.

We could tell you what it's like to work at Assured Assistance.

But honestly? Our team says it better.

"The job seemed like a perfect fit for flexible hours & shorter shifts!" — Karen M.
"I feel like a part of a team who cares about how I feel." — Madison W.
"Rewarding work. A variety in tasks so each day can be different. A joy!" — Karen M.

These are real words from real caregivers on our team — people who show up every day for Berks County seniors with heart, patience, and purpose.

If this sounds like your kind of place, we'd love to meet you.

The care our clients receive starts long before we walk through their door.
It starts with a team that shows up for each other.

Covers shifts without being asked. Sends prayers when someone's in the hospital. Cries together on hard days. Celebrates the good ones.

When our caregivers feel supported, that warmth carries into every home they enter.

That's what makes Assured Assistance different. Not just what we do — but who we are.

Exceptional care always begins with exceptional caregivers, and today we’re celebrating a truly meaningful milestone: Kelly Bowen is celebrating 15 years with our team!

In an industry where longevity is rare, this kind of dedication speaks volumes. Kelly embodies the heart-centered approach we value so deeply, showing up for our Berks County seniors during some of the most vulnerable and emotional moments of life with compassion, consistency, and care.

Kelly, thank you for being such a steady presence for our clients and a vital part of our Assured Assistance family. We are incredibly grateful for the years you’ve given and the lives you’ve touched.

At Assured Assistance, care is about so much more than a to-do list. It is about those genuine, quiet moments that stay with you long after a shift ends.

One of our caregivers carries a wonderful memory of a client who loved the simple joy of a coffee run. When they were able to get out together, that small treat was the highlight of the day. Our caregiver still remembers the way her client’s face would light up with a huge smile, beaming over that first sip and exclaiming how delicious it was.

It is these real human connections that turn a job into a friendship and a house into a home. We are so proud of our team for finding ways to bring that spark of light back into the daily lives of seniors across Berks County.

What does it actually feel like to live with dementia?

We believe that providing the best care starts with truly understanding the struggles our clients face every day. Our team recently participated in a unique dementia simulation training to experience these challenges firsthand.

To simulate the sensory obstacles of dementia, our staff completed everyday tasks while:
🎧 Wearing headphones with loud, distracting music to simulate auditory confusion.
🕶️ Wearing distorted glasses to mimic restricted peripheral vision.
🧤 Wearing oven mitts to experience the loss of dexterity that makes simple movements a struggle.

Tasks that usually take seconds (like filling a med planner, brushing teeth, or even picking up a piece of candy) required immense concentration and significantly more time.

Even simple tasks take more focus when your senses are compromised. Have you noticed a loved one struggling with simple daily tasks lately? Sometimes, a little extra patience and the right support can make all the difference.

Compassionate people needed.

Caregiving is more than a job. It is meaningful, relationship-driven work that makes a real difference in someone’s day.

From our team, we hear the same things again and again about why they love what they do:

→ Building real connections with clients
→ Feeling appreciated by families
→ Having conversations, laughter, and shared moments
→ Making a difference simply by being present
→ Doing work that feels human and purposeful
→ Supporting dignity, independence, and comfort
→ Knowing your presence truly matters

If you are patient, compassionate, and looking for work that values connection as much as care, we would love to hear from you.

Sometimes the most meaningful work is showing up for someone who needs you

This job is rewarding, but it is also a tough one. There is a heavy emotional component to showing up for families during their most vulnerable chapters. Even in the quietest hours, when there are no words left to say, there is so much fulfillment in simply being there. Holding a hand, offering a steady gaze, and assuring someone they are not alone is a profound honor we carry every day.

We do not just provide a service. We provide a safe space.

While the work is emotionally significant, the ability to provide dignity and peace in life’s final chapters is a unique and rewarding privilege.

Last week, we had an incredible time at the Spring Township Administration Building for our Dementia Friends information sessions!

It was so inspiring to see members of our community come together to learn the five key messages about dementia and how we can all respond with more confidence and compassion.

At Assured Assistance, we believe that education is a vital form of support. When we understand that dementia is a disease of the brain—no different than a disease of the heart—the stigma fades and real connection begins.

Congratulations to our newest "Dementia Friends" on receiving your certificates! By changing how we think, act, and talk about this disease, you are helping our seniors feel seen, valued, and safe in the community they love.

World Health Day is a powerful reminder that health is about much more than a clinical diagnosis. It is about the quality of the life being lived.

For the many families we serve, true health is defined by the peace of mind that comes from knowing their loved ones are safe, nourished, and supported in the environment where they feel most independent: their own home.

This World Health Day, we celebrate the support systems that make that independence possible. True health is about more than managing a condition; it is about providing the dignity and connection that allow our seniors to feel whole.
