It was a wonderful afternoon with local Author Jane Healey. She is well-known for her meticulously researched novels that often uncover the "lesser-known stories of women in American history, for example The Beantown Girls. The residents enjoyed such a special event, complete with Chef Sheryl's cannolis and coffee with cold foam and cinnamon—a perfect nod to the Italian-American heritage often found in Jane's Boston-set stories. Fabulous presentation!

We had a fabulous afternoon celebrating our resident Ron on the occasion of his 100th birthday! Ron is a long-time resident of Reading with a remarkable history of service and community involvement. He is an Army Veteran, a member of the Lakeside Concert Band for more than 40 years where he played the trumpet, a former selectman, and served as Assistant Superintendent for over 25 years. He even once oversaw The Residence At Pearl Street when it was a school! He also owned a well-known store; Winslow’s in Reading.
A true lover of music, Ron was delighted when his bandmates joined us to sing “Happy Birthday.” As an extra-special surprise, the resident chorus group—of which he is a member—performed a song Ron himself wrote years ago. A heartfelt thank you to the Town Manager Matt Kraunelis, Assistant Town Manager Jayne Wellman, and Reading’s Veterans Officer Wil Vallier, who presented Ron with a certificate from The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Our residents left their stress behind at our Yoga and Essential Oils Signature Series this week. They joined us for this very special, relaxing experience designed especially with seniors in mind. Nicole Salvati, Yoga Instructor, gently guided us through a wonderful and accessible yoga workout that promoted flexibility, balance, and calm. Following the yoga session, Dr. Laurie Douglass—a Reading resident and Neurologist at Boston Medical Center—along with her nurse Christine, led an engaging essential oils experience. They shared how essential oils can support well-being, reduce stress, and enhance overall quality of life for seniors. This program offered the perfect blend of movement, education, and relaxation. Our restaurant team also prepared delicious protein bars and fruit infused water to enjoy!

We are so impressed with the compassion of our 2 high school volunteers, Abby and Ella! Along with their time volunteering here, they have been on a mission to raise funds to make Memory Bags filled with special Items for our residents in our Reflections Memory Care Neighborhood. They raised the funds, purchased all the items, and put the bags together with our residents in Assisted Living. We’re not sure whose smiles were brighter! The young ladies are so passionate about making a difference for people living with Alzheimer’s disease.
