Accessibility - First and Foremost. 🔴

On this World Day of Social Justice, Threshold asks you to consider the Americans with Disabilities Act. Robert Burgdorf's landmark piece of legislation served as a great first step toward mainstreaming accessibility accommodations. However, progress toward nationwide compliance has faltered. Many buildings still lack wheelchair ramps, automated doors, etc.

A mosaic of beautiful people. 🔴

Threshold's Mosaic House clubhouse helps adults (18+) recovering from acute mental illnesses find work and a sense of belonging. Mosaic house members all play a role in the continued operation of the clubhouse. Members work together, learn vocational skills together, and grow together.

Sharing is Caring. 🔴

Threshold's Community Homes are vital to the growth and happiness of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities seeking to thrive in Berks County. Historically, the community home model has faced significant opposition from "NIMBY" (Not In My Backyard) residents. Federal legislation has discouraged this mindset (i.e., the Fair Housing Amendment Act & the Americans with Disabilities Act), but it, unfortunately, still persists.

Think of our friends with disabilities as neighbors, instead of an "other," and help us make a difference!

In honor of Black History Month, Threshold would like to recognize artist and disability rights advocate Lois Curtis. Her legacy in our courts, as one of the plaintiffs in the landmark SCOTUS case "Olmstead v. L.C," cemented a right to community integration for all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
