Hey everyone —
Just a reminder: I’m not impersonating an officer — I just couldn’t resist trying on the uniform for a moment. WOW — you guys and gals in the military — you rock! Every day, I’m more in awe of what you do for us.

I heard this story about Chips, a military dog in World War II, and it moved me. Chips was a trained sentry dog, serving with the U.S. Army in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. Wikipedia
Once, Chips and his handler were pinned down on a beach by machine-gun fire. Chips broke from cover, leapt into the enemy pillbox, engaged the gunners, and forced them to surrender — helping to protect his comrades.

Powerful stuff, don’t you think?

MEET SHIRLEY S.

If you’ve been in our office lately, you may have seen the ever-beautiful Shirley diligently working her post in our kitchen. Shirley has been with us for well over 15 years, and we can’t imagine Fatkin Natural Healing without her!

But did you know… Shirley is also a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran? 💪
• Service Years: April 1956 – April 1959
• Stations: Parris Island, Quantico (ROTC), and the Navy Annex in Washington, D.C. where she worked in Officer Procurement until her honorable discharge.

After serving, Shirley worked at Western Electric as a secretary, then later at WR Grace. Along the way, she built a beautiful life with her husband of 13 years before his passing. She also spent time in Bethlehem before returning to this area, where we’re blessed to have her.

✨ Fun Facts About Shirley:
• Loves numbers, puzzles, and cooking
• Thrives when surrounded by people
• A huge dog lover (especially dachshunds 🐾 — but don’t tell Karla!)

Shirley says she loves working at Fatkin Natural Healing — and the feeling is mutual. 💛 If you see her here on a Wednesday, please give her a little extra love and be sure to thank her for her service.

Hi friends, it’s me — Karla! 🐶💛
I bet you didn’t know this about me… I may not have served in our armed forces, BUT I was rescued by them!
You see, I once lived overseas in a place where “pups” like me weren’t always treated the nicest. Some wonderful members of the military stepped in and worked hard to find homes for dogs like me. A few of us were lucky enough to travel all the way to the United States with our rescuers. That’s how I found my forever family and my very posh life as office dog, greeter, and full-time cuteness ambassador. 🐾✨
So when November comes around and we collect donations for veterans, it’s extra special to me. Without them, I wouldn’t even be here! And honestly — you owe them too, because they’ve protected the beautiful life you enjoy every day.
