Workouts are great, but NEAT has changed my life. Here’s how


For most of my teens and 20’s, I was obsessed with fitness & broke my body down because I couldn’t get my diet under control.

I always felt I had something to “fix”:

đŸ˜«My weight (the same 10-15 lbs traumatized me)

đŸ˜«My glutes (needed to be firmer)

đŸ˜«My thighs (needed to be slimmer)

I know the above may sound ridiculous to you, but these thoughts HAUNTED me.

I’m sure you have body thoughts that haunt you, too.

Fast forward to 2020, I realized I had REAL things to fix:

✅My marriage: ended up not working out but I’m SO happy now

✅My business: it was scaling so quickly & I realized I needed help

✅My relationship with my body: I knew I had to chill out w/ the workouts to prevent injury

This is when I started visiting Colorado. Many of you say I “glow different” when I’m here.

✹Here’s why: the more time I spent in nature walking (a form of NEAT), the less I cared about my body’s “flaws”.

Walking was my opportunity to THINK.

To reflect.

To be creative.

And just BE ME. It was ME time, away from it all.

I spent the majority of my life avoiding all of the above. I’m a DOER and rarely a reflector. Anyone else with me?

đŸ™đŸ»What I realize now: Walking (NEAT) is my sacred timeđŸ™đŸ»

And guess what? When I increased my NEAT:

✹I lost weight without even trying
✹My bloating disappeared
✹My stress levels subsided
✹My business felt lighter & easier

Now in 2026, I work out HALF as much as I did in 2020.

And when I stepped on the scale earlier this year, I was SHOCKED.

And as much as I still love weight training every week, it’s not the center of my life anymore.

I’m not suggesting we stop working out. I’m suggesting it may be time to step up your NEAT game.

NEAT. This stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis, and it’s absolutely CRUCIAL for your results in the short & most importantly LONG TERM.

What is NEAT?
đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™€ïžWalking
😃Fidgeting
đŸš¶Standing & slightly moving
đŸȘGardening
đŸ§čHouse cleaning
đŸ™ŒđŸ»Any light activity that doesn’t necessarily break a sweat

If you have a step goal, you should start calling it your NEAT goal. That’s what we do in my world đŸš¶đŸ»â€â™€ïž

Don’t count your steps? Start paying attention to how much you actually move each day.

Do you:
✔Take the stairs instead of the elevator?
✔Park farther away from your destination?
✔Walk around Target, Costco, and the mall?
✔Walk instead of Uber?
✔Take mini-walk or pacing breaks in between meetings?
✔Walk after you eat to improve digestion?
✔Use your walking pad to watch Netflix?

These are all easy ways to increase your steps.

My favorite ways to get steps:
❀Walk my dogs (which you see me do every day on my story)
❀Catch up with friends or family and walk at the same time!
❀Hike
❀Stroll around town (I live in Telluride, CO)
❀After dinner walks with Scott

One of my nutritional hallmarks is SIMPLICITY, so I’ve started a Cooking Series featuring simple, healthy recipes that the entire family will enjoy.

✔15 min or less to make, or it bakes for a while so you can complete other tasks while it cooks

I also created this series because I want to help my clients enjoy cooking— this series shows that cooking can be fun & enjoyable.

Sometimes in life, you just have to eat the damn cookie & enjoy it đŸȘ😋

This lemon white chocolate chip cookie from was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had in my life.

Do I eat cookies every day? No, but I used to.

Do I think about them every day? No, but I used to.

After years of obsessing over sugar, I now only enjoy it sparingly.

Not because I want to lose weight.

Not because my dentist lectured me.

But because I don’t need the extra sugar.

When I fuel myself properly, sleep well, and prioritize movement, I’m naturally on a sugar high.

I feel like I can do anything & everything.

When I eat poorly, I can’t perform. This isn’t an option for me anymore.

Today I had a Come to Jesus moment with a few 1:1 clients who hit a plateau


They all told me the same thing about walking


“I haven’t had the time.”

In my head I’m thinking đŸ€„
But here’s what I said


“How about we schedule that mid-day walk that you used to love? You were SO good about it for months. What changed?”

They tell me, “work” and “I have so many other things I need to do.”

Me: “Such as?”

Them: “Kids activities, catching up on projects, etc.”

I say with love, “If your kid had a 12 pm doctors appointment, would you work through it?

Them: 😳

Here’s the truth: You need to treat your habit like an appointment you would NEVER skip.

You’d never skip that 3-hour hair appointmentđŸ’‡đŸ»â€â™€ïž

But scheduling a 15-minute walk is too much time?
Make it make sense.

This is why people hire me.

I’m not cutthroat— I just cut through excuses.

Sometimes you need a little tough love.

Ditch the diet. Enjoy the Journey.

I help people lose weight and keep it off through small, gradual changes in their diet and lifestyle. We do this in a 1:1 and group coaching style.

After starting my career in the health industry as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor, I succeeded in making exercise fun and helping clients integrate exercise into their weekly schedules to lose weight, build muscle, increase energy, and improve quality of life. However, what I learned over the years is how many people overlook the single most important part of changing our bodies-- nutrition.

I worked out with the same people-- private clients and class members--for years, and although they enjoyed working out and saw changes in their bodies, they still weren't 100% happy with themselves. Thousands of hours and dollars spent on personal training, gym memberships, and diet programs hadn't delivered their desired results. They admitted that exercising wasn't the issue; the problem was sticking to a diet consistently that aligned with their lifestyles.

I got lots of questions, and I still do today, about all of the diets out there. "Does Keto work?", "have you tried the Whole 30?", and, "should I start tracking my macros?" While these have helped many people lose weight, only a small percentage keep it off and end up looking for the next solution. The truth is that I have tried these in the past, had success, and then gained the weight back when, inevitably, I stopped following the "rules". I am 50% Italian, 50% Puerto Rican, and 100% female, so I cannot live happily without espresso, wine, chocolate, bread, and having a say in what and when I eat, thank you very much.
