Marvin Adolphson, age 84, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak, after a battle with Myelodyplastic Sydrome (MDS) . Marvin was born May 1, 1941, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the son of Fred and Christine (Vosberg) Adolphson. Marvin joined his brother Donald who was born August 15, 1938.

The family lived on a farm 6 miles west of Armour, South Dakota. The farm, at that time, had no electricity or running water and the farm work was done with horses.

Marvin attended a one room school for grades 1-5, then attended grade 6-12 at Armour Public School graduating in 1959. He worked at a local gas station for one year then enrolled in Southern State College in Springfield, South Dakota. Marvin graduated in1964 with a BS in chemistry. He was then accepted to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, to pursue an advanced degree in chemistry. Marvin graduated in 1969 with a PhD in chemistry.

On July 8, 1969, Marvin was united in marriage to Helen Wookey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

In the fall of 1969, Marvin attained an associate professorship position at Wisconsin State University in Platteville, Wisconsin, where he taught until 1971.

In the summer of 1971, Marvin and Helen moved to Helen’s family farm near Red Oak, Iowa. Helen’s parents encouraged Marvin and Helen to take over the family farm. During this time Marvin also taught several chemistry and math courses for a local community college. He later took a full-time job at Lloyd, Inc., a pharmaceutical company, located in Shenandoah, Iowa. Marvin retired from Lloyd, Inc in 2011, but continued to farm until 2018.

Marvin's hobbies and joys included working in the wood shop, being outdoors, history, learning new things, family get togethers, especially bonfires, and trips to South Dakota. And Marvin always loved conversation, as he never knew a stranger anywhere.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Donald Adolphson; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Adrian and Faye Wookey; and grandson: Daniel Williams. Survivors include his wife: Helen Adolphson of Emerson, Iowa; children: Bradley Adolphson, Diane Adolphson, and Marla Williams and husband Chad; grandchildren: Alex Adolphson, Alice Williams, and Faith Williams; and other relatives and many friends.

A private family graveside service will be held later at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Armour, South Dakota. Memorials may be directed to the Hawthorne United Methodist Church, Nishna Productions, or the Red Oak Music Boosters.

Gary Stephens, age 87, of Henderson, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at his home. Gary was born February 3, 1938, in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Herbert and Genesee (Viner) Stephens. He lived his entire life on the family farm, graduating from Henderson High School in 1956. He attended US Trade School in Kansas City returning to farm with his dad. Gary married his high school sweetheart, Ladonna Ross on November 20, 1960, in Red Oak, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Lynnette, Lori, and Mark. Along with farming, Gary was a wood worker, making furniture, toys, and remodeling the family home. He was quite handy and could fix anything. Gary enjoyed traveling to see family in California and grandchildren who lived close by. He was a longtime member of the Henderson Christian Church where he was a Deacon and Trustee. Gary also enjoyed square dancing with the Henderson Grand Squares Club for many years. Playing cards with friends and family at get togethers was a favorite activity.

Preceding him in death were his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Sander and Mildred Ross; and brothers-in-law: Jack Ross and Clark Ross. Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years: Ladonna Stephens of Henderson; daughters: Lynnette Stephens of Henderson, Iowa, and Lori Unis and husband Jerry of Santa Ana, CA; son: Mark Stephens and wife Nicole of Henderson; grandchildren: Garrison Unis of Colorado; Max Unis of California; and Aaron, Evan, and Audrey Stephens all of Henderson; brother-in-law: Norman Ross of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law Barbara Stille of Lincoln, NE; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life funeral will be held 10 AM Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Henderson Christian Church with burial in the Emerson Cemetery at Emerson, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, November 21, 2025, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Henderson Christian Church, the Henderson Volunteer Fire Department, or AseraCare Hospice.

Craig Allen Euken, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at his home. Craig was born May 5, 1941, in Dexter, Iowa, the son of Herman and Frances (Sien) Euken. He was raised in the Anita area before moving to Clarinda. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1960 and was united in marriage to Judy Foster on November 12, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri. Craig attended technical training in Kansas City for auto body repair. Through the years they lived in Kansas City, Missouri, Osceola, Iowa, and Shenandoah, Iowa before moving to Red Oak, Iowa, in 1967. Craig worked for Union Carbide Eveready for many years and Grays Body Shop. He retired from Eveready in 1993. Craig was a past member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and currently a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, trips to Viking Lake to fish, family trips, taking the kids to the pool in the “Swimming Pool” car, and the backyard pool. The things he enjoyed most were his wife, family and friends, whom he loved dearly, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Roberta Lee Burgus, age 91, of Yuma AZ, passed away on October 31, 2025, in her home at Desert Rose Retirement Community in Yuma.

Roberta was born on May 7, 1934, in Red Oak, IA, the daughter of Gertrude and Robert D. Adams.

Roberta grew up in Red Oak graduating from Red Oak High School in 1951. After high school, she attended the NW Institute of Medical Technology, graduating in 1953. She received degrees in Clinical Laboratory Techniques and X-ray and Electrocardiogram Techniques.

Roberta was united in marriage to Wayne Eldon Burgus on November 3, 1956, at the First Christian Church in Osceola, IA. Because of Wayne’s 20-year naval career, Wayne and Roberta lived in many different places such as Hawaii and on Midway Island with most of their lives being stationed in California.
Roberta worked as a lab and x-ray technician in the different cities where Wayne was stationed. Eventually they retired, moved to Medford, OR, and then to Yuma, AZ.

Wayne and Roberta loved traveling in their RV to different places in the U.S. with their dogs. They eventually bought a mobile home in a 55+ mobile home park in Yuma, AZ. Roberta made a lot of friends and enjoyed delivering mail to her neighbors using her golf cart. She was a member of the Faith Horizon Baptist Church in Yuma. She often provided doughnuts and other goodies after Sunday services. She looked forward to the bi-monthly bible studies that she hosted at her home. She would often fix a meal and have lots of goodies to serve. Roberta also volunteered at VBS at her church. Roberta had a very generous nature and donated to many charities over the years.

Roberta was a member of the American Medical Technologies Society and the Red Hat Ladies Club.

Preceding Roberta in death were her parents, husband Wayne Burgus, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and George Maher, sister-in-law Jacky Adams, brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Dale and Billie Burgus, and niece Debby Conroy.

Roberta leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Floyd “Lynn” Adams of Red Oak, IA, nephews: Steve (Lynn) Adams, Jack (Frédérique) Adams, Mike (Dee) Maher, and David (Karen) Burgus; nieces: Shelley Adams, Kim Robinson, Kristi Patrick, Delaine (Richard) Gabel, Dayna Dove and many great nieces and nephews along with cherished friends Cathy McPhink and Maxine Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 15, 2025, at LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Marilyn Sue Westover, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Marilyn was born September 11, 1933, in Prescott, Iowa, the daughter of George and Bernice (Gourley) Hayes. She graduated from the Stewartsville High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Charles Gilbert “Gib” Westover on May 5, 1951, in Villisca, Iowa. Marilyn made her home in Grant, Iowa, for many years before moving to Denver for five years. She then moved to Red Oak, Iowa, and Acorn Acres has been her home for the past 16 years. Over the years, Marilyn worked at Eveready Battery Co., D & L, and was a waitress at several different places. In retirement, she decided to go back to work at the Garden Center at Hy-Vee. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, cooking, and reading.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Gib Westover in 1985; sons: Danny and Gary Westover; grandson: Nicholas Westover; and many brothers and sisters. Barbara LaRue Frink, age 88, of Marion, Iowa formerly of Henderson, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at her home. Barbara was born October 19, 1937, in Benton County, Arkansas, the daughter of T.C. “Ted” and Bernice Bell (Anglin) Shook. She was the youngest of three children. She decided to celebrate her 88th birthday in Heaven!

Barbara grew up in Henderson, Iowa, graduating from Henderson High School in the class of 1956. She played basketball and was a band majorette. After high school, she attended airline and business school in Minnesota and worked for Watson Bros. Transfer in Omaha. Barbara then attended beauty school in both Nebraska and Iowa and operated shops in Henderson and Emerson for several years. She worked at Vista Gardens Gare Center and later Arlington Place for many years. Barbara was a hairdresser for 61 years, retiring eight months ago when she moved to Marion, Iowa.

Barbara was united in marriage to Gordon Leon Frink on October 25, 1959, at the Henderson United Methodist Church. They moved to their farm in 1969 where they farmed and raised cattle. She loved the baby calves. She and Gordon raised their children: Gary, Barry, and Sherry on this family farm. Barbara loved having family come for Christmas. She always took great pride in her appearance, especially her fingernails and hair. And she was a stubborn mule of a woman. Barbara faithfully attended her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and would often yell at the referees if she thought they needed it!

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Gordon Frink on March 7, 2019; grandchildren: Dawn McFarland and Marc Wilson; siblings and spouses: LeRoy and Faye Shook and Pauline and Dean Perry. Paige Marie Clark, age 29, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away on October 17, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Paige was born November 13, 1995, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of TJ Clark and Diana Sharp. She lived all her life in Red Oak, Iowa and was a member of the Red Oak High School Class of 2014. Paige was an in-home caregiver working for the Homecare Advocacy Network of Southwest Iowa. She earned the “Rising Star” for the month of March this year. Paige has been described by family and friends as being a “Free Spirit” who had a gypsy soul. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and was very artistic. In high school, Paige was an excellent student who was in the ELO program. She loved writing especially in her journal and encouraged her mother, whom she had a special bond, to write in her own journal every day. She enjoyed the challenges of any puzzle, loved painting and singing Rap songs. Paige had a loving generous soul and brought love and laughter into the lives of those she touched. This was evident through her long-term friendships, her love of family and friends, and the love of her many furry friends. And there were MANY!

Delphine Marie O’Toole Waymire Smith, age 92, of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center. Delphine was born on January 7, 1933, in Muscatine, Iowa, the second child of Emmet and Dorothea O’Toole. Delphine graduated from Mercy College of Nursing in Iowa City in 1954. She was united in marriage to Leland Waymire on October 16, 1954, at St. Malachi’s Church in Ardon, Iowa. To this union seven children were born: James, Leland, Kathleen, Diane, Dorothy, Stephen and Patrick. Delphine was a nurse for 42 years, of which 15 years she served as director of nursing for the Villisca Good Samaritan Center. Leland passed away on October 25, 1987. Delphine later married William Smith on January 18, 1992. She was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca. She organized meals through the Villisca Food Pantry; she was a member of Villisca PEO and volunteered at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.

John Joseph Willms, age 77, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025, at his residence after a brief illness. John was born June 5, 1948, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Orville and Ruth (O’Keefe) Willms. He was raised in the Boys Town area of Omaha and moved to Red Oak where he graduated in 1967. He served in the United States Air Force for four years and moved back to southwest Iowa. Upon his return from service, John attended a technical school in Omaha enrolled in the Heating, Air, and Refrigeration program. John was united in marriage to Yvonne Frederick on June 22, 1974, in Papillion, Nebraska. Over the years, John worked at Montgomery Ward in Atlantic as a service technician and Walnut Grove Research Farm before moving to the farm in Red Oak, Iowa where the family resides today. He raised corn, soybeans, cattle and hogs. At age 62, John received his associate degree in business management. John was a member of the Farm Bureau, Mills Montgomery County Cattleman, ISU Extension Council, St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Church Council and the Knights of Columbus.

Fred Albert Brockman, age 81, of Macedonia, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Glen Haven Village in Glenwood, Iowa. Fred was born September 30, 1943, in Oketo, Kansas, the son of Frank and Catherine (Latus) Brockman. He graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland, Iowa, and served in the United States Army. He lived most of his adult life in Macedonia, Iowa. He worked for Oakland Beef Packing for many years and worked in construction. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, going to flea markets and the casino, collecting John Deere memorabilia, and was an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan.

Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings: Francis, Leo, Lorenz, and Abe Brockman; and sister: Carol Munger. Survivors include his children: Sandy Frink of Emerson, Iowa and Brian Brockman and wife Dawn of Carson, Iowa; grandchildren: Daltynn Haskins and husband Alex of Omaha, Nebraska; and Stephanie Errthum and husband Austin of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters: Theresa Burrington and husband Roger of Emerson, Iowa; Marie Griffee of Beattie, Kansas; and Betty Wolfgang formerly of Hancock, Iowa; special friend: Cheryl Workman of Atlantic, Iowa; and other relative and many friends.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 11 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Carson Community Center in Carson, Iowa.
