I started as a single mom without a plan or any goals. It is hard to have goals when you have a child and you are too young to drive or apply for jobs. When I was 16, with a 4 month old life is a bit glum, but my Great-Grandmother told me to not be ashamed and to be someone she could be proud of. My Great-Grandmother was a beautiful woman with white hair and looked like she was in her 70s when she passed at 92 years old. She was one of two women who cultivated my future. We are of Hungarian decent and she asked me (on her deathbed) to carry on the family tradition and be the first licensed hairstylist. Every generation for the past 5 generations had one women who did everyone’s hair. My Great-Grandmother was that one person. She had 21 brothers and sisters (you read that correctly), and only had a 6th grade education, but to me she was the smartest woman I ever knew.
Mary Majernik is the reason I began Cosmetology school as soon as I passed my GED. Over the past 19 year, I have worked in virtually every sector imaginable including processing fish in Naknak, AK. It has been an amazing life filled with tragedy and love, most importantly love. When my husband and I began our family, we soon realized a stable position with a benefits package was necessary. I put my career on hold and raised our family, but now the love affair continues! Our children are 22, 17, 11, 10 and 4 with the latter being our only boy. The girls are frankly tired of me playing with their hair and I have missed being a stylist.
Since our children are older, I began working with Supercuts and a brief stint with Sportclips. After receiving my reciprocity license in 2018, I began working with Supercuts. It has been a wonderful ride, but something has been missing. The something is working for myself.
Now my main focus is being an amazing stylist for Women, Men and Children (especially the special needs ones). Please take a look at Styles by Krissie prices and operation hours. I can only work in the evening due to working a Full-Time position in the corporate world, but I am living the dream (as Ken Coleman would say).
