So much fun and so many get togethers in the last few days! From exercise group, coffee chat and a super bowl party. This weekend our dietary department is making some yummy Super Bowl foods on Sunday.We try our best to make it fun and person centered for our residents.

It’s Activity Professionals Week and we’re recognizing Julie Haberer, our Activity Director at Red Oak Rehab and Care Center 🎉💙

Activity Professionals Week recognizes the heart behind daily life in our community. Activity professionals create moments of connection, purpose and joy – from group programs to one-on-one visits – helping residents stay engaged and feel at home every day.

Being an Activity Director in a skilled nursing facility comes with unique challenges. Residents are at many different levels, and programming must be thoughtful, flexible and inclusive. It takes creativity, planning and genuine care to meet residents where they are.

Enjoyed some yummy pie on National Pie Day, Jan 23rd! We chose 3 kinds, Chocolate Cream, Coconut Cream and Cherry. We also watched a video about the history of pie. Did you know fruit pies started way back in 1500s, meat pies way before that? There's so many kinds, it'd take forever to listen them all.

We had so much fun with Cassandra, Naturalist from Montgomery Conservation. She brought some live turtles and different types of turtles shells. Also taught us about other types of turtles such as snapping turtles. Did you realize snapping turtles have really long necks? Next time Cassandra comes, she's bringing her screech owls.We love learning new things.

Every morning we have exercise. We know it's important to keep moving. We try to make it more fun by using different types of music. Two days a week, we do a higher impact exercise to get our heart rate up a little then have a cool down. The other days we do general stretching to keep our bodies strong and limber.

We have some very artistic residents here. We painted on canvases while listening to instrumental music. We found it very therapeutic.
