Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition in which the body attacks its own hair follicles. The exact cause is unknown and it can affect people of all ages. There are various treatments for Alopecia Areata including topical steroids, intralesional steroids, and other systemic medications. It can sometimes present with the presence of other autoimmune diseases such a thyroid disease. Therefore, your medical provider may order some extra blood tests if indicated.
