I met Ashely early in her pregnancy. It was cool to connect early on and have longevity. She told me they didn’t want to know if they were having a boy or girl until their birth day. I looooove this, it’s so rare these days.

Ashely & Brandon are so connected and have such a beautiful relationship. They know how to advocate, listen to concerns, then use data and their intuition to make their decision. They wanted a spontaneous labor and although that didn’t happen, they beautifully navigated a super short induction without needing Pitocin. It was quiet and calm as Ashley pushed and they welcomed their baby BOY.

I am grateful to have navigated their pregnancy & birth journey along side them. And oh my gooooooodness their baby boy was so cute and squishhhyyy, just shy of 9lbs. 😍😍😍

Birth vibessssss…. Am I right?! 😍

Laboring at home allows for labor to progress in a calm environment where you feel safe, unobserved and not on a tight time line. For early labor, cozy up and rest (!!!)

Even if you’re giving birth at the hosptial, it’s still incredibly beneficial to labor at home until you’re in a good labor pattern. Since early labor is the longest, stay home, rest, eat a nutrient dense meal, hydrate and then rest/sleep some more.

When things shift, you can find what movement works for you, head to the hospital, or continue at home. This is pretty nuanced depending on what your birth preferences are, but working with a doula can help you navigate active labor based on YOU.

Coping through labor is the passing of a baton. What works in early labor usually looks different in active labor then shifts again during transition.

We work on several coping techniques because you never know what will work in the throes of labor. And we use what works until it’s no longer working and we need to switch it up.

Movement, breath, counter pressure, heat/cold, the shower (water!), visualization, surrender and sometimes sheer grit.

We talk about coping even if you’re planning for an epidural because I’ve seen too many times where the epidural doesn’t work properly or labor progresses too quickly.

What worked for you in labor?

It’s undeniable that the presence of a doula makes 👏🏾 a👏🏾 difference! It’s about individualized, personalized care, deep listening and honoring bodily autonomy.

We saw it crystal clear with Kaylene’s birth. Before my arrival, the mood was much different and unfortunately, the medical staff thought “she didn’t need an epidural” 😳😳 which is just wild. (Usually it’s the opposite and staff is pushing the now-or-never epidural).

When I arrived, we advocated strongly for pain management and finally, she got what she needed/wanted. They did apologize after, but the way things can shifted was quite remarkable. Whether you do or do not want medication isn’t the point, it’s more about honoring people’s intuition and requests. Period.

I am always honored to hold space for birth and advocated strongly. I truly will say what needs to be said if that’s how you need me to show up. If you need me to sit and bear witness, I can do that too. There is no one size fits all.

Love youuuuuu, Kaylene 🤍

Shoutout to my man!!! 🤍And listen to the cute video my daughter sent me this past weekend when I was gone at back to back births 👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽

Seriously, there is literally no way I could do this job without him. When I leave for a birth, I say bye and legitimately don’t know when I’ll be back. I kiss my babies (usually in the middle of the night) then head out the door. Thankfully, my husband has it covered — he gets the kids ready for school, takes them to school, he goes to work, picks them up, does homework, dinner, baths, all the things. And honestly, this is what allows me to be present with my amazing clients…..!! I know my kids are with their dad and in the best care. It’s truly such a gift!! Thanks, babbbbeeeee!!!! 😘

This mom was surrounded by women for her birth. And not just any women, but her people!

I love when there’s a group of women present for the birthing person. It reminds me of the old days when the village held women during birth. They were there to witness birth and tell the stories to future generations.

Savannah (mom) had her girl who would fix her lashes and use the stroller fan to dry her tears and freshly rinsed lashes. 🫶🏽 🤣 This is a V important job.

Her wifey was there to hold hands, give a squeeze or bring on some laughter in the throes of labor / pushing. The most important job.

Her doula (me) and nurse held space, brought comfort, and helped to communicate what was going on medically/physiologically in real time.

What a beautiful celebration there was when baby came earthside.

This client review means the world to me 😭 To see a mom go from being pumped full of fear to feeling educated, having agency, and making informed decisions is literally why I do this. She had a successful VBAC and her story will help encourage others to do the same 🤍

I love teaching childbirth education!!!

There’s an element in birth that is unpredictable AND also, going in to your birth educated can help so so very much. Knowing what questions to ask, knowing when to allow for more time or take action, knowing what’s considered “normal” (or variation of normal), and so much more. All of this can help eliminate fear when you’re in the throes of labor and reduce unnecessary interventions and birth trauma.

Two words for this mama —- Birth. Warrior.
As a first time mom, it’s common to have a longer birth since your body has never done this before and your brain doesn’t really know what to expect.

We all walk our own birth journeys and they are all different. And sometimes, it’s loooooong and hard. There are unexpected twists and turns and there’s really no way out but through.

Ann was educated, had her hopes for birth, and stayed open and willing to make changes as birth unfolded. She prayed, grounded herself, listened to what has happening in the moment, and vocalized what was important to her even if it was pushing back on hospital policy.

She pushed her baby out despite all the talk of a cesarean. She made sure her and baby were still safe, and stayed the course. She dug soooooo deep to get to the other side and she did it!!! We were all crying and so happy when her sweet baby boy was in her arms.

It’s the close of another year as a birth keeper and I am so grateful for all the beautiful families who trusted me to be apart of their birth team.

This year was a big pivot for me. After 10+ years working privately as a birth doula, I started accepting insurance. It’s been a blessing and a curse from a business standpoint.

👍🏽 On a positive note, I was able to work with families who would otherwise not have access to doula care and this has truly been such a gift!!! 😭 🫶🏽

👎🏽 On the flip side, I had to completely change my business model, learn how to bill insurance, my pay got cut significantly, claims get denied and I had to chase money and track it all 🤪 😮‍💨

But like I always say, FLEXIBILITY is the name of the game.

2026 let’s goooooooooo 🎉

Here’s the thing about cesarean births….

🤍 There are legitimate reasons people need cesareans! Usually your baby and body will give signs when things are headed that direction despite “doing all the things”, and thank goodness cesareans are an option!

🤍 Having agency is important, just like any birth! That means you can decide to have an elective cesarean. You can decide at any point that’s the path you want. You can say you want immediate skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, and other options that should still be made available to you when at all possible. We know these things have amazing benefits for mom and baby.

👎🏽 The problem is - fear mongering and unnecessary cesareans. Which happens way more than I wish was the case.

👎🏽 Inductions are the new norm and a big reason for the “cascade of interventions” which ends in a cesarean. Meanwhile, usually the induction wasn’t even medically necessary

👎🏽 Then alot of practitioners claim to be “ok” with a VBAC but then don’t give people a true trial at labor come the time for birth. That’s not cool. All of a sudden, baby has to be out by 39 weeks, or is looking big, or some non-medical reason that is used for coercion.

👎🏽 We don’t have proper support for postpartum care as it is, and with a cesarean, we definitely need that extra support.

🤍The good news is — doulas can help with all of this! Whether it’s a planned or unplanned cesarean birth, we got you and can absolutely help this process.

🤍 Over the past 11 years, I’ve had 6 clients have a cesarean birth, none in which were unnecessary. I know for sure there was a calm, confidence, and level of support that these families had that they wouldn’t have otherwise had without a doula.

🤍 Reach out for questions, support, birth story debriefing, referral, or anything you think I could help with.
