Discover Yoga

Discover Yoga A space where each student is given an opportunity to explore yoga and its practices in a way that is supportive and adaptable to their particular needs.

Serving Redmond's community since 1997. Discover Yoga, Discover Yourself
Discover Yoga was established in 1997 in the Stonehouse bookstore in Redmond. Since its inception, the teachers and staff have been committed to serving our students through instruction of yoga postures, breathing and meditation techniques as well as the history and philosophy of Yoga. In the tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya, known as Viniyoga, our instructors have learned to adapt each class to the needs of the students. Viniyoga’s focus on individualised teaching, modifications and adaptations of the poses, and attention to breath provide the opportunity to begin at any level and deepen your practice with each class you attend. Yoga For Every Body
At Discover Yoga we firmly believe that yoga is for Every Body. There are no bodies that aren’t right for yoga, everyone can benefit from the healing, growth and deeper peace that a yoga practice can provide. As well as building strength, flexibility and overall good health in the physical body, yoga also works on the mental, emotional and personality levels to bring greater ease, joy and freedom to your life. The limitations of your physical body should never be a barrier to the health boosting benefits of practicing yoga. You won’t find any one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter yoga at DY. Viniyoga is all about adapting all of the postures and techniques to the individual student. Each class at our studio is different and reflects the needs of the students practicing in class that day. Our instructors are all trained to adapt and modify the poses to help make them accessible in some form to every student. Some of our students even practice all or part of their class seated in a chair! You're invited to an illuminating 1.5-hour session with Robin Rothenberg, director of Essential Yoga Therapy (EYT), a pioneer in the field of yoga therapy, now serving as President of the Board for the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Robin has spent the last fifteen years training yoga teachers to become Certified Yoga Therapists, providing them with the adaptive tools and knowledge so they can support those living with chronic pain and illness in healing. In this evening session, Robin will offer insight into the distinction between yoga teaching and yoga therapy, the evolving profession and vocational potential for yoga therapists, and future opportunities. Following questions, she’ll guide you through a simple, therapeutic yoga practice to set you up for a good night’s sleep. Whether you're curious about deepening your practice or considering advancing your professional skills, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn from a true leader in the field.

Step onto the mat and into myth. In this class, we’ll explore the stories behind our favorite yoga poses, beginning with an introduction to the Hindu pantheon—the gods and goddesses who walk beside us in yogic lore. We’ll trace the threads that connect Hindu mythology with other cultural pantheons, including Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse, and Native American traditions. As each story unfolds, we’ll move into the poses, allowing myth, movement, and meaning to merge.

Blooming Within: A Spring Equinox Sound Journey

As day and night come into perfect balance, this Spring Equinox sound journey invites you to pause, soften, and turn inward. Through immersive sound and vibration, we’ll create space for gentle awakening—honoring what has been resting beneath the surface and allowing new intentions to naturally emerge. Rather than striving or forcing change, this experience supports quiet alignment, inner balance, and the subtle blooming that happens in its own time.

Yogic philosophy sees anxiety as a change in energy and has a whole host of options to choose from to manage it and get into better balance. If you feel like you could use some more tools in your toolbox to manage anxiety and stress, this workshop is for you!

Our time together will begin with a short lecture on how yogic philosophy sees anxiety and the management of anxiety. We will also explore how this correlates very well with Western thought. After the discussion, we will move into the bulk of the workshop, which will be more experiential. Some of our time will be spent with practices that, when practiced consistently on the mat/cushion, will shift the energy and help manage anxiety. Other portions of the practice will offer up tools that can be used in the moment, when we are challenged by anxiety.

Quieting pranayama and kriyas (practices working on the subtle level of energy), as well as meditation, will make up the majority of the practice time. Meditation will be partially guided and include seated work as well as walking meditation. Some mindful movement at a level accessible to all attendees will be incorporated.
Handouts outlining the mat/cushion practices you could continue and the “in-the-moment” practices you may find useful will be distributed so you have something to refer to after you leave.

Please be sure to bring any items you may need to be comfortable seated for a bit of time. We will have chairs available in the studio as well.

There are two kinds of birth partners, those who step up to their potential, and those who show up only to get pushed to the periphery. While many birth classes offer comfort techniques and tools for birth partners, few teach how to use those tools under the pressure of labor. This is like expecting a child who just learned their alphabet to also be able to read.

Learning how to support birth requires more than a list of tools, like learning to read takes more than a list of alphabet letters. It takes knowledge of a few key aspects of the birth process and understanding the dynamics of the birth room to step up into the role of a capable birth partner. With that knowledge, applying the tools comes naturally. That's what you will learn in this couples workshop!

By the end of this workshop, you and your partner will:

~Have tools to improve your communication with each other and your birth team so your voice is heard in the birth room.
~Know key points of the physiologic birth process so you use the right physical and emotional support at the right time to improve the experience of labor
~Be prepared with the exact questions you need to ask your birth team so you know which labor positions to use for a more efficient and easy labor
~Know how to facilitate changes in your birth plan so your partner can be your advocate while you stay focused on your labor and your baby

Free Bonus for this session: Foundational Awareness Practice audio tracks for your partner to continue to practice at home

It's back! Tristin is bringing this amazing workshop to us again in March. Don't miss out....

How you breathe is intimately connected to the health of your pelvic floor, core and nervous system. This makes your breath one of the most important tools for pregnancy and birth. However, many of the common prenatal breathing exercises found online don't teach proper breathing mechanics, which can leave you vulnerable to pelvic floor or core dysfunction.
In this workshop, you will learn physiologic-based breathing practices to help you connect your breath with your diaphragm and pelvic floor and restore your nervous system balance. You will also experience a relaxing 30-minute guided breathwork journey to reset your nervous system and leave you feeling confident as you continue to use breathwork practices in your pregnancy and birth to induce relaxation and encourage a calm birth experience.

By the end of the workshop, you will:

~Understand the connection between your diaphragm and pelvic floor
~Know how to engage your diaphragm properly to optimize your breath and limit pelvic floor dysfunction and abdominal separation
~Feel confident using your breath to induce calm during pregnancy and birth
~Free Bonus: Stillpoint Prenatal Breathwork video & audio track to continue your practice at home

It's here! Our next retreat at Sleeping Lady Resort in Leavenworth is now open for registration.

Come celebrate the Hunter’s Moon, October’s Full Moon with us! As the Hunter’s Moon rises, we are reminded of a time to gather, reflect, and prepare for the next season. This retreat invites you into a time of grounding, reflection, and gentle preparation for the darker months ahead.

Through daily yoga, mindfulness practices, and spacious time for rest, you will be supported in slowing down, releasing what no longer serves, and reconnecting with your inner rhythms. Surrounded by autumn’s rich colors and the steady energy of the upcoming full moon, this gathering offers an opportunity to reset intentions, cultivate clarity, and deepen self-awareness.

Participants will share in community through yoga, optional group activities, and nourishing meals, balanced with time for nature walks, journaling, and solitude. Whether you are seeking deeper connection to your practice or simply space to restore, this retreat offers a nurturing environment to step away from daily demands and return to yourself—feeling grounded, renewed, and supported as the season shifts.

We return to Sleeping Lady Resort year after year for its beautiful, secluded location on 70 acres of meadow and forest along Icicle Creek Canyon in the Cascade Mountains. We love the spacious, comfortable rooms with a northwest feel nestled in the woods, featuring stunning views, porches, down comforters, and private bathrooms with heated towel racks.

Our Yoga practices take place in the gorgeous, cozy practice space with ample windows and inspirational views. You'll also enjoy incredible gourmet food catered by the award-winning Kingfisher Restaurant and Wine Bar. All of this, plus a beautiful spa, surrounded by mountains and wilderness make for an unforgettable weekend retreat.
