I almost died.
Twice.
When I was 3 months old, I started coughing up (and pooping) blood. My mum and dad rushed me to the doctor where they were told I needed emergency surgery.
A section of my small intestine had telescoped in on itself and needed to be removed ASAP.
Luckily, all went well and I was just left with a scar across my stomach that I have to this day (I call it my ‘survival scar’)
However, I didn’t always have such a loving relationship with this scar and as a teenager I became extremely self conscious in my body.
This (together with a lot of bullying and the death of my grandad) created the perfect storm for me to develop an eating disorder that put me in hospital and took years to recover from.
During that time, my gut took another big hit; constipation from not eating enough, acid reflux from extreme anxiety, poor nutrient absorption from rushing through meals, and food intolerances from a restrictive diet.
But armed with a Masters in Nutrition, a lot of additional training and devotion to my health, piece by piece things improved in both my mind and body.
As much as it was painful and hard, I’m also grateful for this journey because it means I understand what my clients have gone through when they come to me with health challenges.
It also means I now have the tools to help them move through these challenges quickly so that they don’t have to spend years (or even decades) struggling.
Please know that you’re not alone. I see you, and I’m here to help 🤍
