And last but not least, we've got our final 2023 co-recipient of The TBH Movement Impact Scholarship, Quinn Ranjo, whose headed off to El Camino College in the fall with the goal of becoming an aerospace engineer.

Here are his reflections as he wraps up his high school career:

What is your favorite high school memory?

My favorite memories of high school were waking up at 10:30 and hanging out with friends

What is the most impactful lesson you learned from participating in the Youth Work Group?

The most impactful lesson I learned from participating in the youth work group is to give back to my community. It’s important to give back and help those in need in order to be a successful society.

"You're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so... get on your way!" - Dr. Seuss

Congratulations, Quinn!!!

Next up is Shea Corkery, whose headed to Chico State University in the fall.

Here are some of his reflections as he wraps up his high school career:

What is your favorite high school memory?

Meeting so many different people and constantly connecting with new groups with different interests

What is the most impactful lesson you learned from participating in the Youth Work Group?

I learned that, no matter where you are in life, you can always give to others and spread positivity in some way.

Love it! Keep spreading that positivity, Shea!!! Wishing you an amazing next chapter!

Meet our first co-recipient of The TBH Movement Impact Scholarship 2023 - Lucas Lines, whose headed to UC Santa Barbara in the fall to study marine biology.

Here are some of his reflections as he wraps up his high school career...

What is your favorite high school memory?

My favorite high school memory was playing soccer and volleyball during my junior year. The connections and passion I shared with my teammates were highlights I continue to hold close. I still find myself looking back at those moments.

What is the most impactful lesson you learned from participating in the Youth Work Group?

The most impactful lesson I learned from the YWG was about the inequitable distribution of resources on a local scale. In the South Bay/Harbor Area alone, there is a big funding gap. This is reflected in the schools with the funding of schools in the area being extremely contrasted between more economically well-off areas and less economically resourced areas.

What am I most grateful for?

All the friends who have supported me to get to where I am.

Wishing you all the best in this next chapter, Lucas!!!

Reunited and it feels so good! I last saw this trio in June of 2021 when they delivered a check for $7,030 to a local non-profit, Sharefest. In just a couple of weeks, Lucas, Shea & Quinn will be graduating from their respective high schools and moving onto their next adventure. So very proud of this crew!

Today, they were awarded The TBH Movement Impact Scholarship for their philanthropic work and incredible achievement during such a difficult time in human history. Well done, !

Keep an eye out for spotlights on our alumni. Congratulations to our Class of 2023!!!

Happy Labor Day, All! On a day that's dedicated to honoring YOU for your contributions in the workplace and workforce, it's also a day shared with the International Day of Charity this year.

Did you you know...
• It was started in 2011 by the United Nations to increase social responsibility and public support for your favorite charities, and
• Today was chosen to commemorate the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta?

Remember, there is no act too small because EVERY ACT OF GIVING MATTERS. Here's how you can make your Labor Day even more meaningful:

• You can give directly to ShareFest and/or Safe Place for Youth (S.P.Y) by clicking on their handles and making a direct donation to these incredible non-profit organizations.
• You can also donate to The TBH Movement by giving directly via Paypal at https://bit.ly/3b7suGR or directly through the donate button on our page.

100% of your donations are tax-deductible and will be paid forward to our two grantees this year by mid-October.

Keep up with our 2022 initiatives at www.thetbhmovement.org

Stay cool!

Celebrating 4 "official" years of serving our local South Bay communities

's journey actually started in 2014 right at my dining room table with Noah, Sarah, Caleigh, Jenna and Kailah. They launched the original Youth Work Group program as . I'm forever thankful to this crew for their grit and commitment. These "before" and "after" pictures really take me back.

Fast forward to 2021 and our impact includes:

• Mentoring 15 not-so-ordinary high school students 1:1 on civic duty and philanthropy
• Completing 4 fundraising campaigns and granting 4 local non-profits $23k+
• Launching the inaugural TBH Movement IMPACT Scholarship Award, awarding $450

It's been an exhausting, exciting, frustrating, fun, gritty, and incredibly worthwhile journey. Special thanks to all of my mentees, who I'm so incredibly proud of.

And after 7 years, it's time for a change. We're working to evolve The TBH Movement's vision and mission and excited to share what's in store for v2.0 in the coming months.

Here are some words of wisdom from Joel:

"The biggest lesson I have learned is to give as much as you can. The rewards and benefits are often intangible, but I feel like you get a lot more back from it. It also feels good too, so that’s a bonus."

What was your favorite memory from HS?

"I love hiking with my friends (school friends and out of school friends). It’s a nice way to catch up and talk about things that don’t keep us stressed :)"

We are so proud of you, .yamada!!! We're super excited for the impact you'll continue to make at UC Berkeley and beyond!!!

I say the same thing every time... and EVERY time my mind is blown away by how time flies. And just like that, it's time for the Youth Work Group 2021 to launch from their high school nest. We're proud to award Jillian Yamada, Emma Kawashiri and Joel Yamada the inaugural IMPACT Scholarship Award for their service and contributions to the community.

Our first awardee is Jillian Yamada whose headed to this fall and planning to major in Psychology. Scroll left to see some of Jillian's favorite memories from her senior year.

Here are some words of wisdom from Mia:

"Remind yourself of the purpose of your project and allow that to guide you; there may be times when things don't go as planned and you may become discouraged, but if you think back to reason why you are doing what you are doing (for us it was helping out the IDD community), then you WILL accomplish your goals."

What was your favorite memory from HS?

"When I went on a trip to San Diego with my high school basketball team to play in the SoCal Holiday Classic tournament; when we weren't playing we would hang out in the hotel room and recreate funny videos."

We are so proud of you, Mia!!! We're super excited for the impact you'll continue to make at UCLA and beyond!!!

Team Triple E officially delivered a check for $7,030 to ShareFest yesterday. What an incredible year and a half journey it's been with Shea, Quinn and Lucas!

What leaves me in awe about Shea, Quinn and Lucas is how incredibly selfless they were at a historical time when there was so much uncertainty and loss in the face of a pandemic. Never once did waver in their commitment to serve their community. In the face of a worldwide pandemic, these guys were inspired to keep pushing through. Once they learned about the struggles their peers were facing from neighboring underresourced communities, they were making calls, sending texts, knocking on doors (while physically distancing), executing campaigns and persuading others to care about their cause to , bridge gaps and promote as a pathway and means to a better future.

Their original goal to raise $4,500 appeared impossible at the start... that is, until they got to the finish line and decided to push themselves further. We are so excited to deliver this check to Sharefest, which will provide funding to start a necessary mentoring program to support students from underresourced communities navigate through higher education and vocational programs. Well done, !!!

Many thanks to Chad Mayer and Betsy Chou for coordinating schedules to bring us all together for the FIRST time and for reaching out to Councilmember Joe Buscaino's office to recognize their service to the community. And special thanks to parents, family, friends, neighbors and our local community members who took the time to care, tangibly give and create hope for a better tomorrow for us all!
