As winds down, it’s important that we continue to bring awareness to the health disparities that Black people experience across the spectrum, and make a conscious effort as healthcare workers to try and close the gap with what resources we have.
As the influential Black feminist bell hooks said: “My hope emerges from those places of struggle where I witness individuals positively transforming their lives and the world around them. Educating is always a vocation rooted in hopefulness.”

🧀 So what exactly are FODMAPs? 🧄They are a group of sugars that aren’t properly absorbed in our intestines. When FODMAPs reach the small intestine, they move slow, attracting water 💦 As they pass to the large intestine, FODMAPs are fermented by gut bacteria, producing gas 💨The extra water & gas and water cause the intestinal wall to stretch and expand. Because people with IBS ( ) have a highly sensitive gut 😖this “stretching” causes exaggerated pain and discomfort.

😄3 out of 4 people with IBS who follow a low FODMAP for 2-6 weeks will have:
✅Reduced pain & discomfort
✅Reduced bloating & distention
✅Reduced diarrhea or constipation
✅Improved quality of life

🚩It’s NOT NORMAL to p*e if you cough, sneeze, laugh, or lift heavy 🚫
Involuntary loss of urine that happens during physical movement or activity (for instance 🤧coughing, 😩sneezing, 🤣laughing, 🧍🏼‍♀️standing up or 🏃🏽‍♀️running, 🏋🏿‍♀️heavy lifting) and conditions that increase the abdominal pressure (stress) on the bladder, is called stress urinary incontinence (SUI).

It is certainly not related to psychological stress.

👭About 1 in 3 women suffer from SUI at some point in their lives.

Urinary incontinence increases with age, but is often also a common complaint of 🤰🏾post-partum women.

📈About one-third (1 out of 3) of women age 60 find that they sometimes leak urine.

🚹Stress incontinence is uncommon in men who have not had prostate surgery.

🆘 There are a variety of treatment options to help you! These include Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy, urethral bulking, pessary, and/or surgery.

Ask your doctor for a referral to see us or a Urogynecologist! You don’t have to deal with this! There’s something YOU CAN DO!

⚠️ CHECK YOURSELF TO PROTECT YOURSELF ⚠️ October is month. The last year created some setbacks in breast cancer screening and early detection. Make sure you ask your doctor about getting your mammogram!
🧮 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
📊 63% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage, for which a 5-year survival rate is 99%! This is why mammograms are so important!!!
👎🏽This year, an estimated 43,600 women will die from breast cancer in the U.S.
🙋🏽‍♂️What about men?? Less than 1% of all breast cancer cases develop in men, only 1 in 1,000 men will ever be diagnosed with breast cancer. They are usually over the age of 50. Risk factors include radiation exposure, high levels of the hormone estrogen, and a family history of breast cancer, especially related to the BRCA2 gene.
