We lost a great friend of AbilityPath. Our thoughts are with Matt’s family and friends.
In Loving Memory of Matt Dolan
It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of Matt Dolan, General Manager of the Homewood Suites by Hilton Palo Alto since its opening in 2015. Matt was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and compassion—a true friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Matt's impact on our community extended far beyond the hospitality industry. At AbilityPath, we were blessed to have Matt as an exceptional supporter of our mission. He didn't just believe in our work—he took meaningful action. Under his leadership, Homewood Suites welcomed adults with developmental disabilities into their workforce through our employment program, providing them with opportunities to thrive and grow. Matt also proudly displayed artwork created by AbilityPath participants throughout the hotel, ensuring their talents were celebrated and shared with the community.
His commitment to making Palo Alto a more inclusive and compassionate place touched countless lives. Whether supporting Project WeHope, the Ecumenical Hunger Program, or opening the hotel's doors to families displaced by the CZU Lightning Complex fires, Matt led with his heart. His compassion was inspired by his own family's journey—moving to Palo Alto so his daughter could receive the medical care she needed at Stanford Hospital taught him the power of community support. He dedicated himself to paying that forward every day.
For his extraordinary service, Matt and Homewood Suites were honored with the Tall Tree Award in 2022, recognized as an outstanding business by the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce and Palo Alto Weekly. Yet those who knew Matt understood that recognition was never his motivation—he saw people in need and responded with genuine care.
We will be eternally grateful for the impact Matt made and the lives he touched. His legacy of kindness, inclusion, and unwavering support will continue to inspire our work at AbilityPath and resonate throughout our community for years to come.
Matt leaves behind a community that is better, more compassionate, and more connected because of him.
