Real Progress. Real Results.
There are lingering myths around oral immunotherapy (OIT).
Here are the facts from our data and the largest clinic-based study of OIT, conducted by Weill Cornell Medicine and Latitude Food Allergy Care:
MYTH: OIT causes constant, scary reactions.
FACT: Reactions during dosing are uncommon and didn't derail treatment schedules. Only 5% of doses in over 1,000 patients caused any reaction, and the overwhelming majority were mild, like an itchy mouth or stomachache.
MYTH: OIT takes over your family’s schedule.
FACT: On average, patients reach desensitization to many common food allergies in just 8.5 months, with clinic visits every two weeks.
MYTH: OIT is only effective for young children and adults cannot be treated.
FACT: At Latitude 97% of patients under the age of 4 successfully reach maintenance, and 92% of patients of all ages reach maintenance. Our data validated in the Weill Cornell study included patients from 0-47 years old, and our overall current data includes patients 0-68 years old.
MYTH: Allergy clinics keep results in a black box, and only self-report.
FACT: Latitude shared clinical data from over 1,000 patients with Weill Cornell, ensuring results were validated, published, and advanced. The initial findings were presented at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) Annual Meeting earlier this year, for all allergists to learn from. And with the largest private-practice OIT dataset in the country, we will continue to evaluate and share our data to continue to improve patient care.
The FACTS: OIT means families can keep living their lives while gaining protection. OIT is safe. OIT is effective.
Every family deserves a life without limits from food allergies. That’s why we’re committed to transparency and on a mission to provide access to expert care for every family living with food allergies.
