Periodontal Disease is inflammation that often progresses slowly over the years. It typically doesn't hurt and most people do not even know they have it. When you have your annual periodontal charting this is what you are being evaluated for. I use this picture daily to educate my patients on how to reduce local and systemic inflammation.
